For computer gamers, this has to be the highest minimum and recommended I have ever seen....

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
OS: WINDOWS VISTA (SERVICE PACK 2) 32-BIT
PROCESSOR: 2 GHZ DUAL CORE (CORE 2 DUO 2.4 GHZ OR ATHLON X2 2.7 GHZ)
MEMORY: 2 GB
HARD DRIVE: 20 GB
GRAPHICS CARD (AMD): DIRECTX 10.1 COMPATIBLE WITH 512 MB RAM (ATI RADEON 3000, 4000, 5000 OR 6000 SERIES, WITH ATI RADEON 3870 OR HIGHER PERFORMANCE)
GRAPHICS CARD (NVIDIA): DIRECTX 10.0 COMPATIBLE WITH 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 OR 500 SERIES WITH NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GT OR HIGHER PERFORMANCE)
SOUND CARD: DIRECTX COMPATIBLE
KEYBOARD AND MOUSE
DVD ROM DRIVE

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
OS: WINDOWS 7 64-BIT
PROCESSOR: QUAD-CORE CPU
MEMORY: 4 GB
HARD DRIVE: 20 GB
GRAPHICS CARD: DIRECTX 11 COMPATIBLE WITH 1024 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 OR ATI RADEON 6950)
SOUND CARD: DIRECTX COMPATIBLE
KEYBOARD AND MOUSE
DVD ROM DRIVE

Although recommending a 560 or a 6950 is really strange unless this game is heavily optimized for NVidia (the 6950 is a lot more powerful than the 560, unless they mean 560 Ti).

Bad Company 2 runs good on medium graphics settings on my PC. Anyone think I could run BF3 on my pc? I'll update with specs tomorrow.

I'll go ahead and take a stab at it now. - Easy enough, it revolves around you're definition of "run"...

could it run the program? Yes. Launch the UI, toolbars and maybe HUD? Probably. Run at a playable level? - doubt it.

Those are the largest minimum requirements I can recall.

I haven't played a battlefield game before, so for those who have played this before....what kind of game type is the betas "rush". Is the beta online multiplayer?

If so I may be taking next Thursday/Friday off to relax and play some video games.

Yes, it's online multiplayer.

It will be 32 players (16 per team), one attacking and one defending. There are two bombs per section of the map, with 3 sections. The attackers must arm the bomb (takes a few seconds) in order to blow it up. The defenders must prevent the attackers from arming the bomb, or disarm the bomb once it's armed (it takes a little bit for the bomb to go off, and once it's armed it makes a loud alarm sound so the defenders know it's armed). The attackers are given "tickets," which are lives. If the tickets go to zero, the defenders win. If the attackers blow up all six bombs (2 per section), they win. The attackers have tickets added after they blow up the 2 bombs in a section.

For the beta, it will be only one map and one mode (Rush, as I described). Plus, you can claim your name for the beta (that transfers over to the actual game).

Hope that made sense. BTW...to all BFBC2 players, you can no longer blow up the bomb site from far away. In fact, I believe you have to arm it. Not sure about that one, explosives may still work (I didn't get a chance to try that out). Yet I know for a fact the bombs are no longer in structures you can blow up.

Oh, and being new to Battlefield, there are features you really need to know about in order to really enjoy it. Most of these will carry over from BFBC2 to BF3.

They did change up the classes some, so ignore the names. Just know that if you have ammo, drop it. If you have medipacks and defib, throw out medipak and revive teammates., etc. Oh, and prone is in BF3.

Rush is the only way I play BC2. It makes teams work together, it isolates campers, it speeds up the gameplay, and it gives you new ways to win. An underdog team can detonate a bomb site with good strategy and teamwork.

I enjoyed conquest, which is capture the zones, but I was hooked once I tried rush.

Not a big fan of prone, too many memories of campers in cod.

Rush will be a whole new ballgame on BF3. Guns (RPG's) and explosives won't be able to blow up a station.

The only thing over the minimum specs that my PC has is 4 gb of ram. So I'm probably just going to stick with xbox 360.

If your GPU is not over a 8800GT then yes, it would not be a good idea to get it for PC. If it's not 8 series or better for NVidia or ATI 3000 series or better, your card is not DX10 or DX11 compliant (BF3 cannot be played with DX9). You would not even be able to play it.

If you do have a DX10 card but you don't think it's powerful enough, you can always download the beta and try it out. That won't cost you anything.

I'm close on these specs for a PC game... Although there's no way I'm buying until I see the demo to see if it runs well enough.

Here's what I have, let me know if you feel this will be enough to run the game well on a PC:

Vista 32
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
ATI Radeo 4670 512 MB
4 gigs of RAM
HD is not an issue

I bet you could play at 768 resolution (or 720 if that is what you have). Your GPU is actually below the min specs, but not by a lot. I am willing to bet they set the min specs for 60 frames per second, but games are playable at 30+ frames per second (some claim even lower than that). Either that or they are for 1080p. Most games min specs are not really their min.

Other than the GPU you are perfectly fine.

As you noted, play the beta and see how it goes. I am not sure what settings will be available for the beta, but I am sure there will be some lower end settings to test it out.

What scott said. GPU is a bottle neck.

Most FPS at 30FPS can be touch and go. Especially something on a larger scale like Battlefield.

Most other games, MMO's, RPG's, RTS can be played just fine locked around 30.

You could always buy a new GPU - or spend $65 and crossfire them. Provided you have the capability.

with being so close to the minimum, he could overclock the GPU (assuming it's not already overclocked). That can provide around a 10% increase in performance. Plus it's not like CPU overclocking. It works with any machine.

To DaBucks, I have found MSI's Afterburner to be the most user friendly. It's simply Rivatuner with an easy graphical interface. It should work with your card. If interested I can walk you through how to use it. It's pretty simple, but you will need to check your overclock. I recommend downloading Futuremark's 3dMark Vantage (there is a free version). Overclock and run 3DMark. Watch temps and for artifacts. If it looks good, up the overclock. Continue until it doesn't look good or the program crashes. Then back down to the last stable overclock and you are done.

Of course your mileage may vary. Some cards overclock a ton, and others don't overclock worth a damn.

The only issue with overclocking a GPU vs CPU is how easy you can get them to rainbow.

Be cautious - its a whole different animal. That said: 10% gains over the minimum might not be enough to get an enjoyable play rate. Like I said. Might want to invest in another or 2nd card.
