Bands You've Seen In Concert

This past Saturday (2/6/2010) I saw Alice in Chains at the Salem Armory. The last time I had seen these guys was Lollapalooza '93 in Pittsburgh. As much as I was timid about the absence of Layne, I have to admit that William DuVall did a superb job. He brought an energy that Layne would have never been to match again (once he started to deteriorate so badly). Furthermore, it was neat to see AiC in the grunge rooted PNW. I really enjoyed the show. They played songs from every one of their albums. I recommend fans to see them when they come through.

As for the opening band, Creature With The Atom Brain, they were okay. The distortion was a bit much for the venue, but they had some decent rhythms.

Just an incredible line-up, I've been wanting to go down to Bonnaroo for a few years - but the line-ups haven't been what I was hoping for.. I may have to go this year - my personal favorites are in bold:

Dave Matthews Band ? Kings of Leon ? Stevie Wonder ? Jay-Z ? Tenacious D ? Weezer ? The Flaming Lips with Stardeath and White Dwarfs perform "Dark Side of the Moon" (I'm a HUGE Pink Floyd fan, never heard of these guys but will be more than excited to hear it)? The Dead Weather ? Damian Marley & Nas ? Phoenix ? Norah Jones ? Michael Franti & Spearhead ? John Fogerty ? Regina Spektor ? Jimmy Cliff ? LCD Soundsystem ? The Avett Brothers ? Thievery Corporation ? Rise Against ? Tori Amos ? The National ? Zac Brown Band ? Les Claypool ? John Prine ? The Black Keys ? Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers ? Jeff Beck ? Dropkick Murphys ? She & Him ? Against Me! ? The Disco Biscuits ? Daryl Hall & Chromeo ? Jamey Johnson ? Clutch ? Bassnectar ? Kid Cudi ? Baaba Maal ? Kris Kristofferson ? Medeski Martin & Wood ? The xx ? GWAR ? Dan Deacon Ensemble ? Tinariwen ? Wale ? Deadmau5 ? The Melvins ? Gaslight Anthem ? Miike Snow ? The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band ? Dr. Dog ? They Might Be Giants ? Punch Brothers ? Isis ? Blitzen Trapper ? Blues Traveler ? Flaming Lips doing Pink Floyd = win. Dead Weather rock in concert. I am in love with Norah Jones. The National, Black Keys, Jeff Beck, and Dr Dog are (of what I know) worth checking out if you're going. I'd go if the headliners were better.

How'd you like the Dr. Dog show tonight, Wade? They freakin rocked, and the opening bad wasn't too bad, either.

Dr. Dog were spectacular live...highly recommend them. Their music live is vastly different from their studio stuff.

Seeing Trevor Hall on Friday night and Black Joe Lewis at Newport next month. Also got tickets to see The Antlers at The Basement in April.

Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears are also playing the Nelsonville Music Festival in May. Also playing are The Swell Season, Todd Snider, Man Man and Drakkar Sauna (among others). Oh yeah, and Loretta Lynn...

Totally not my scene, but I'm really considering it for this year.

Saw a great show by RJD2 (playing with all Columbus artists), Busdriver and (Columbus's own) Happy Chichester here in L.A. last night... RJ was great, as always (admittedly, havent seen him live since 2006 or 7 in NYC). New stuff off Colossus was very good.

Saw MGMT last night and came away rather impressed by the variety in their set. On the flipside, I was a little disappointed in their tameness. I thought they'd be a little crazier...then again, who knows what they might have been on. Either way, well worth the price of the tickets.
