Bands You've Seen In Concert

Saw Arlo Guthrie, Thursday and Arlo never disappoints! He is an American icon. Go see him! He's currently touring with the Burns Sisters. The Journey On Tour.

I've seen Arlo six times, he lives just a couple of hours away, so he stops by Northampton, MA quite a bit. His daughter, Sara, is amazing. She did "Goodnight, Irene" and it gave me chills. Got to meet them after the show, Arlo signed my Mother's copy of Alice's Restaurant and talked to us for at least ten minutes. He's a treasure and a great storyteller.

Just picked up tickets to see the Jayhawks in October. Really looking forward to it. Still one of the best concerts I ever saw was them opening for Wilco at the Riviera in Chicago. This has been a great concert year for me, I added Ben Folds and Cake to my list. Really hoping Ryan Adams does a U.S. tour later this year.

For the metal fans out there.. caught Periphery, The Human Abstract, The Contortionist and Bless the Child at the Bluestone a couple weeks ago. One of the best shows I've been to in a long time. The Human Abstract was ridiculous.

Skeletonwitch this Friday at Ravari. :banger:

Okay, I'm bored, and I'm going to sound old here, but I'll list a few:

Siouxsie and the Banshees
The Cure
The Cranes
Ministry
Too Much Joy
Superchunk (if you haven't listened to the album "Foolish" you really need to, one of my favorites)
Belly
Wax
Front 242
KMFDM (Interviewed them, didn't use it, freaks)
Depeche Mode
Stabbing Westward (cool guys, their rep called us to take them out)
Rage Against The Machine
Primus (interview)
Ned's Atomic Dustbin (interview)
The Melvins
Beck
The Figgs
Fretblanket
God Lives Underwater (interviewed them)
Dance Hall Crashers (interviewed them, members of Rancid)
Rancid
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Nirvana (pre-Nevermind)
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden (pre-everything)
Grateful Dead
Whoever the hell opened up for the Dead (I was tripping, I don't remember)
Jane's Addiction
Nine Inch Nails
Blind Melon (I got a call in the middle of the night when Hoon died. Bad night. :( He was friends with my now in-law, who was the senior editor of the music magazine I wrote for.)
Green Day
Henry Rollins
PJ Harvey
Figdish (great guys, the bassist Mike dated my ex, ha. They went wandering the Oval at school.)
Veruca Salt (went on a double date with Nina and Louise, I was a wingman just to fill in, Nina dated the guy from Figdish, my friend had the hots for Louise. We went to see Half-Japanese at Sudsy's in Cinci.)
Curve
Kitchens of Distinction
Helmet
Butthole Surfers

Oh hell I don't know, maybe a hundred more. God I feel old.

Edit: Oh, and I don't want to admit this, but my first concert was Tesla. It was at the Buckeye something? A big green area about 45 minutes from Columbus. I think Motley Crue played too but we didn't stay for that, except for a bit to see how awful they were.

Pretty sure I mentioned it before, but...got to see the Scorpions last year on their farewell tour. That was a pretty kick-ass concert, with Ratt opening for them. Totally awesome, and need to get to some more like that. Was watching some videos of the concert I was at today so its fresh in my mind.

Some of these aren't technically bands, I guess, although most had back-up musicians with them

The Beatles (Yeah, I'm that old.)
Pink Floyd (Best Concert Ever)
Frank Zappa (he was rude & obnoxious--a real jerk)
Willie Nelson (fabulous guitar work)
Steve Miller
Grateful Dead
Judy Collins
Pete Seeger
Leadbelly
Chick Corea
Carlos Montoya
Herman of Herman's Hermits (Ha! At, of all places, Whetstone Park for the July 4th fireworks show. We were there for the fireworks.)
Ringo Starr & his band--whatever they're called
Peter, Paul & Mary (ended up at Jong Mea's on Broad St. for dinner after, and so did Peter--appeared to be settling the night's receipts with his tablemate.)
..............................................The Tubes--(over here, 'cause they do not belong in the same list with those others)

I think we went to Arlo once, too.

I'm leaving some bands out, no doubt, but my recollection of a few of those concerts is a little...*ahem*...fuzzy.

We had tickets to see Bob Dylan, but he had his motorcycle accident & cancelled the tour. My friends and I were the only three people in America who didn't know about it, apparently. We got all the way downtown to Vets Memorial Auditorium the night of the show & the marquee was dark. Really regret that one...it would have been awesome.
