I've been the only person on here to say anything negative about U-verse, so I found a couple of my posts and quoted them below.

Oddly enough, I'm seriously considering going back to U-verse. My current setup with one digital cable box and the rest of the TVs being on basic cable has gotten more and more annoying. Everytime I want to watch a show while I'm also playing a game in the office, I can't, because basic doesn't have the channel that I want. My Wife and I really miss the four room DVR and we'd like to be able to set up the DVR from the PC rather than always going through the menus. Also, TWC only allows two shows at a time on their DVR. Either watch one and record one or record two, but you have to watch it while it records or go watch a different TV. The cost of U-verse isn't as bad as I thought it was either, considering the differences in lineup.

My biggest hang-up is and has always been the stability of their modem. Has anyone else had recent issues with their modem locking up, and, in turn, locking up all of their cable boxes? This happened to us pretty frequently the first time around. The sales rep claims that it was an issue for a lot of people and that they've corrected the problem. But that's what sales people are supposed to say. Has anyone had/still have equipment problems?

I had it for 3 months and switched to TWC. The concept is there, but it's not ready yet, because AT&T puts too many restrictions on what you can do with your network. I loved the 4 room DVR, but not necessary for me. Like satellite, you have to have a box at every TV. Rental fees for boxes at four TVs, when I really only wanted digital cable at one, and basic cable at the other, non-HD TVs, was a lot more than I wanted to spend on extras that I didn't want/need. The cable boxes are run through the modem, but it doesn't add any cool features that you should get by having all of your devices interconnected, and if the modem locks up and needs reset...the whole sytem locks up and has to wait for the modem. The modem locked up at least twice a week. It was a lot more expensive than TWC digital cable, with a similar lineup. Also, similar to satellite prices. The internet speed was not what it was cracked up to be. Their standard speed is 6 Mbps (much slower than my TWC speed). If you want to go to 10 Mbps (still slower than my TWC speed), it costs quite a bit more, and 18 costs alot more.

Alot of people on here like(d) it. I had a bad experience with it, and the UPS store that I returned the equipment to, said that they were getting multiple equipment returns everyday. For as limited as their availability, I can't believe that that's a good thing to have that many returns.

In my experience, U-Verse is a great concept with awful execution. I had it for 3 months and went back to TWC. They fucked up the order, the installation, and the billing. Everything is tied to you modem. If your internet has a hiccup, then your TVs go down, and everything has to reboot. In the 3 months that I had it, I had everything go out around two dozen times.

I know that BB73 likes his U-Verse in Chicago, and maybe once it's been in Columbus for a little while, they'll get better, but my experience with U-Verse was that it had all of the drawbacks of satellite, without the convenience of cable, or the HD quality of satellite or cable.

That locking up of the signal used to happen to us occasionally, but after talking to the service folks on the phone, an unplugging/rebooting of the box seemed to clear up almost all of that.

That was a few months ago, but I don't really know if they did something to correct a problem, or if it was just a burp-type thing with the equipment that just went away with a reboot.

I wish I could, but dial up seems to be the only option for the net!
Have you looked into the possibility of wireless? (I.e., using someone like Verizon for all your service through cell.) That wouldn't cover TV but it could handle both internet and phone.

Got it, love it....way better than Comcast or Time Warner IMHO....We get 3 rooms DVD, HD, and the next to top level internet for ~$150 a month....

Same.

Have it. Love it. Great picture. Great features. On-Demand is a little behind what I know Comcast has, but everything else is worth it. TONS of DVR space so no big deal to me.

I didn't experience any backdoor fees or anything of the such. They usually have good previews too if you don't want the top packages (HBO/Showtime/U300 level for 3-6 months free at times).

I have it here in Gahanna and it's the next best thing that I've had other than WOW!

I'm moving out to Pickerington here in a few weeks, and decided to go with them again. My advice is sign up online, we are getting cable 50% off for 6 months and they're giving us $150 in visa gift cards.

I actually did go back to Uverse shortly after this discussion. Unplugging/rebooting was never the answer, but rather bad connections on the inside of the wall plate. I'd had one Uverse install, a TWC install, and another Uverse install, and it wasn't found until the second Uverse install. The Uverse guy said that they were supposed to put new connections in for all new installs. I imagine that that was a big part of their intial problems in Columbus. They were trying to hook up their new equipment to old line that were often run by amateurs.

I've had Uverse for over a year now, and I just came to the end of my one year promotion of having U450, 10Mbps internet, and unlimited voice for U.S. calls for ~ $180 (including tax and other charges). After the promo, the cost was going to go up about $60 or $70, so I knocked it back to the U200. I'll just pick up the sports package in about a month, so I don't miss any football or soccer.

Overall, I've been a lot happier with Uverse than I was during my first attempt. Even on the U200, I think that they have a better channel lineup (for me) than TWC does. The biggest problem is that Uverse doesn't have Fox Soccer, BBC America, and a few others in HD, but TWC does. That doesn't outweigh the fact that TWC doesn't have the NFL network, so I can't see myself switching (again) any time soon. Basically, look at the lineups and see what's right for you.
