Arizona State Sun Devils (official thread)

Points are more commonly used to mean "rep points", which are gained or lost thru the feedback feature. When someone leaves feedback on a post, the rep points are added to the recipients total rep, depending on whether it was positive or negativ
No, not entirely. Points start out at 1000, and you can bet on them in vbets (click 'bookie' in the top set of links). Some here have bet their way all the way to the millions. It's mostly just for fun.
By the way, when someone leaves you a feedback comment are you supposed to respond to them?
If it's a mini conversation, you can send them a private message. But in general, they are best left alone.

It is against the rules to bring reputation messages (which are private) into this forum (public), especially if you are complaining about them. THat's known as ding whining.

Some here choose to send rep back when someone sends them some, I would frown on this. This is known as a rep circle, and kind of abuses the purpose of the system. If they also say something funny, witty, insightful (green reps), or idiotic (red), you may send a rep back. But don't simply reward them with a rep (positive or negative) because you got one.

After our struggles at DT, if he lives up to his HS hype he'll be more than just some guy from AZ. Besides, tOSU fans are true fanatics. He'll be part of a huge family here.

i would think that, as a recruit, there would be a big appeal to a program that has a solid defense but a specific void that I personally could fill. like you say, he comes to tOSU, becomes a run stuffing DT, fills a void and becomes a hero to many (not just some dude from Arizona). he goes to ASU and his talent potentially gets wasted in a pool of mediocrity.

Following up on these hero vs just a guy from AZ comments. I couldn't see that ever being played out. High School football isn't big enough in AZ, and really neither is ASU football to really create a "hero". Gerrell Robinson commited last year and the hype in local papers was a mere flicker. The real comparison is... go to ASU and be considered a top 20 team for 4 years... Go to OSU and be considered a contender for 4 years. ASU is in that third tier. I'd consider the top tier of OSU, Florida, LSU, USC, Oklahoma... then your Oregons, Georgia, Texas, Wisky and then is the 3rd tier with ASU, Clemson, Virgina Tech, PSU, Cal... all IMO. The only way ASU plays for the Championship is via a "Magical Season".

Ever heard of Terrell Suggs? I don't think his talent was wasted at ASU? I think ASU had 6 or 7 guys drafted in last years draft. You don't need to go to a BCS game to get drafted. So I can't fathom his talent would "potentially" be wasted by going to last years Pac-10 co-champion.

starBucks, I know you went to ASU, but have you been paying attention to Arizona HS football recently? It has grown tremendously and AZ is starting to produce some serious talent. You don't think Jake Plummer, Danny White, Randall McDaniel, Terrell Suggs, Jeff Van Raaphorst, etc.. are ASU "hero's?" Sure, ASU probably doesn't have as many as tOSU, but that doesn't make them any less revered among the ASU faithful.

Gerrell Robinson would be more in the spotlight if he actually got to catch a ball. ASU has a lot of experienced receivers in front of him, but he will get his chance and put his mark on this team and everyone will appreciate him that much more for being local kid.

You spoke of the "magical season." That is what I want. We don't go to big bowl games every year, so if Adams can help us achieve that "magical season," he will be listed with the names I wrote above.

I think you're misunderstanding his statements.

He's not measuring high school football on the talent it produces. In Ohio, some HS football games draw 30,000+ people.

I've been to the Phoenix area, multiple times, and they simply don't care as much about football as the average Ohioan. The number of revered players is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, Ohio is insane about football, and players who are successful at OSU are living legends.

starBUCKS was speaking to the indifference surrounding Robinson's commitment. His production is irrelevant. If a 5-star player from Columbus commits to OSU, there would not only be a significant amount of ink in the local papers dedicated to the commitment itself, but also to follow up stories on the remainder of that recruit's senior season.

ASU may have a good program, but in Columbus, football, at all levels, has crossed over the line from passion to obsession a long time ago, and hasn't looked back since.
