I will say I should have thought about the title of the thread a little more, it seems to dominate the discussion. I went to two games last year, Kent St. and Wisky. For KSU, I wasn't expecting a raucous crowd at all. It was very appropriate for the game, people reacted to the big plays, like Hartline's punt return and 3rd downs. Of course it died down in the 2nd half. The most entertaining part was a few guys from Kent sitting near us who knew all the Flashes by name and were annoying some of the other fans. There were some Bucks fans in our row who were a) squeezing in a couple people who didn't have seats there, and b) talking on cell phones and generally not paying attention to the game. That I have a problem with. Even if I'm watching a game by myself at home, I'm not answering the phone unless it's my mother. I don't mind if people need to take an important call, but if you're going to chit-chat, take it to the concourse.
Now for the Wisky game, I was expecting a more electric atmosphere. It was a little bit better, but I was surprised by how little. It was a good, close game, the first one that was in doubt, but the crowd never really got on a roll. They still cheered for the big plays, but when UW was leading in the 3rd, when the team really needed the crowd behind them, many people chose to sit and complain, rather than stand and cheer. For a bitter conference rival and record setting streak on the line, I would hope for a little more. I don't expect everyone to stand and yell the whole game, just be into the game. I get the feeling that seat location has a lot to do with it. Both games I was surrounded by middle aged suburbanites; it was like a country club outing. I guess if I had to pinpoint why I started this thread in the first place, it would be because of the people who just aren't into the games. I certainly understand that many people have small children with them, or just want to quietly watch the game; that's fine. But the people who talk on cell phones or sit and talk about everything except the game should find something else to do on Saturdays. There are tons of people who would love to be in the stadium cheering on their Bucks.
I encourage people to take this thread wherever they want. Talk about your favorite experiences, compare our fans to other team's, funny fan stories, etc. It's an interesting subject, the symbiotic relationship between a team and their fans.
