we're at $2.81 in Princeton.. up 30 cents since Sunday AM... no self serve in jersey... my partner paid $76.50 to fill up his Suburban yesterday

I was driving through New Jersey a couple weeks ago and was shocked to hear that no one is allowed to pump your own gas in the state. So you're saying the dude at the Mobil station was telling the truth?

I'm not even going to mention the brown turban he was wearing.

$2.08 a gallon. What do you have?
$2.08?! What a fucking ripoff! :2004:

Seriously - here's what we need to do. WE need to take control of this shit. This is a very Carlin-esque idea, but everybody needs to call off work and say they can't afford to commute because of gas prices. If 90% of the nation's workforce just decides not to show up, what the hell will they do? FIRE EVERYBODY?! It'll serve as a wake up call for all the people with power in this country (read: old money). They're the ones who can actually get shit done around here it seems, and while three-dollar gas may not be a big deal for them, if none of their workforce shows up, then they'll REALLY start hurtin', and maybe pay some attention.

Or maybe, just maybe--- we should take time to seriously think about alternative fuel sources; increased public transportation; fuel conservation; decreased dependence on foreign oil conglomerates.

If we choose to drive fuel-hog vehicles (as I do) we really should not complain that gas prices are going up. It sucks!!! Yes it does. But that is the price we pay. Americans pay so much less than other countries, I think we are just starting to understand the value of the aforementioned concerns.

Lastly, I think gas prices are controlled less by 'old money' Americans trying to get rich off of us as it is OPEC, Venezuela's crazy leader, and other oil barons around the world who are lining their pockets by tightly restricting oil flow.

Does it happen often enough so people can't pump their own gas though? Apparently the powers that be in New Jersey think so. I guess drive offs could be a factor.

...and no i'm not turning this political, but I have the right to bash the party i support

You think for two seconds that the oil companies will alow that? Case in point: When I was in Okinawa, the military TV channel which showed American programs there played filler material in place of commercials, and one of the filler spots was a "Technology Today" blurb. One of them featured this guy who invented a very small 2-stroke engine that overcame all the problems of a normal 2-stroke (having to add oil to the gas, poor emissions, etc.) while being very powerful and extremely fuel efficient. The engine weighed around 100 pounds (the guy picked it up by himself and carried it to a work bench) and produced something like 150 HP...they put it in a Geo Metro or similar small car and could smoke the tires with it. They also claimed to get about 70-80 miles per gallon with it on the test track. This was in the 1995-1996 timeframe. Gee, I wonder why no one has heard of this engine...
