Anyone capable of discussing gas without politics? Anyone?

I don't think anyone is trying to "create mass hysteria" by warning of further increases ahead. Hurricane Katrina is wreaking havoc with the little domestic offshore drilling we actually do and it's expected to cause oil prices to approach $70 a barrel. If that happens, gas prices WILL continue to rise.

Supply and demand, folks. It ain't rocket science.

Edit: forget approaching $70/barrel - it's already climbed that mountain today!

Oil prices surged to a record above $70 a barrel on Monday as one of the biggest hurricanes in U.S. history disrupted oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico.
The region is home to a quarter of total U.S. oil and gas production.

It's one thing to warn about prices increasing it's another to say " go out and buy your gas tonight because it will be $4.00 a gallon by the time you wake up tommorow" and that is what was said by this guy

Paid $3.01 a gallon yesterday.

The off-shore drilling we have in the Gulf of Mexico doesn't supply nearly the amount of oil that the oil companies want you to think...it's just more justification to keep fucking us at the pumps.

Oil is trading at $70/barrel on the world market - the oil companies don't need to make up excuses. The problem is global demand has gone up dramatically in recent years while domestic supply hasn't changed at all, largely due to government regulation.

The Chinese economy and our own bureaucracy have done more to "fuck us at the pumps" than the oil companies. In those respects, we've fucked ourselves but it's always more fun to blame the oil companies.

Heard something interesting today. The state of Montana, which contains 30% of the US coal, is starting factories to make gasoline out of coal. The Nazis first did this and South Africa did it during apartheid. Surprisingly, the gasoline from coal is much cleaner than from oil, and would only be around 35 dollars a barrel. Why havent we been doing it? Until recently it wasnt cheaper to make it, now it is. I havent heard a good reason why we shouldnt be doing this.
