any guitar players here?

Just ordered one of these. Could only get the tobacco sunburst for the 160.00. Red was 227. Both had free shipping. Let me know how yours was adjusted out of the box.

Set-up was pretty good out of the box. I did replace the strings pretty quickly to Ernie Ball 2221s because the stock strings just sounded really flat to me. Fun and easy guitar to play.

Bought one of these today. Spending way too much on gear lately.

This thing sounds killer. Awesome for blues and rock.

Sup fellow guitar players. Working on a song if you don't mind having a listen.

It's not finished, but it's getting there. It's metal. Recorded with my Musicman JPX and Axe FX II (which is the best purchase I've ever made, btw).

Not really into metal all that much, but it sounds good to me.

You like SOAD? That's the first thing I thought of when I got about 5 seconds in, and its not necessarily a bad thing.

I really like some of the ideas, and the main riff is nice and "catchy." I have a few notes/thoughts if you're looking for those.

Used to listen to them, haven't for a long time though.

I'd love to hear your notes/thoughts. That's why I posted it, trying to get as many opinions as I can so I can make it as strong as possible.

Here are some things that stuck out to me. The first sentence is what I heard last night after just a few listens, the rest are thoughts after a few more listens this morning. Overall an excellent piece of work, though.

1) Love where you start to go at the 0:12 mark, but think it ends just a bit abruptly. I know runs like that typically aren't long in this type of music, but it still feels like it was cut short, even if only by a few notes (upwards, maybe end with a quick scream/harmonic if possible). After a few more listens, I think it lacks a sense of direction in that I don't feel like it goes anywhere, more so than it being abrupt. Its just kind of there, although it does create a very nice break, and is technically amazing. Maybe restructuring it with a clear high and/or low point that only happen once (each) since it is such a condensed run.

2) Now that I've listened to it a little more, I feel kind of like a held bend at the end of the run at 1:26 (or in place of the last two beats) might add a nice bit of tension that moves the listener into the last bit of the song in a different way. I think with the run that's there it creates a very "easy" progression for the listener, where as a hold might make it a little more exciting. Not sure how to word it, but the run feels "normal."

3) When/If lyrics get added, all the above points probably don't matter or disappear anyway.

Those are just more "feelings" and interpretations as a listener, because I couldn't even dream of playing anything close to that level. As always, take my opinions with a grain of salt, as I'm no music producer. Looking forward to hearing the finished version.

I like that track, it has a lot of potential.

I dig the time signatures at :25 to 1:00, that's a good build up.

What I might suggest, since this is a work in progress, you have some killer toms at :12 and :27, but that's the only time I heard them - at the 2:11 mark I think it might be good to bring that back and extend it. The build up you go into right after that second tom roll is good, and I'd like to hear it go full circle, bringing that back into the song and letting it roll out for a while. The palm mute triplet at the end of the "chorus" seems to lend itself to going into that part well. Once you have the tom break-down rolling you can do anything - synths, clean guitar layers, acoustic runs - I think it might give you a lot of options to extend the piece, add some character and still keep the overall tone. After you've built it up again, throw in the sick runs at 1:26 and the "chorus" from that piece and I think it could be a very solid composition. I like the 1:26 arpeggio and would love to hear it go straight into the 1:45 guitar run or 1:56 strumming pattern if possible the second time around.

I know you're continuing to work on the piece so these are merely suggestions from one guy. I'd love to hear what you're working on and come up with based on your own thoughts and ideas and flow. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the input guys. I stayed up last night until about 4 am working on this, and I nearly finished it. Going to go back and see how your guys' suggestions make it sound before finalizing anything though. I like what you guys said.

About the drums, the current drums are kind of there just to keep the song moving along and give me a general idea of how I want it to sound. I'll go back later and add fills, change parts a little, etc. The tom part does make a return though. :p

EDIT: Also, this track will sound much better with bass in it, haha. And vocals.
