any guitar players here?

Currently working at a guitar shop because I graduated and part time at a guitar store was the best I could find in Columbus at the moment (hey, the commission is actually not bad so far - I'm making more than a few others I know...).. but anyways..

This dude named Rob Marcello came into the store with the Roland rep. One of my co-workers told me to not let Rob leave without him playing something. Said he was one of the best guitarists in the world. I figured he was probably over-stating it..

Nope. Dude was ridiculous. I've seen Dream Theater live and this guy was right there with Petrucci. I've never seen anything like it in person.. Not that anyone other than me gives a shit.

How often are you supposed to restring? And how do you restring. I've got a 6string acoustic electric that has had the same strings for the past 4 or so years

Depends on how often you play - I don't play a whole lot, but usually change my strings every 6 -8 mos. or so. You'll notice a huge difference in tone going from 4 y.o. strings to new ones - should brighten the sound considerably.

As far as how to change them, only change one string at a time. Tune as you go and once they're all changed - retune and then let the guitar 'rest' for a while, then retune again. It'll take the strings awhile to 'stretch out'.

Weird, I was going to bump this thread with a purchase I made today. Bought a '93 Jackson Rhoads STD Professional with case for $70. It sold new for $1000.

I restring every month, by the way. Well, the guitars I actively play anyways. The ones I don't I just throw a set of coated Elixers on until I decide to start playing them again. Then I go the monthly route.

Replaced the pickups this week with Duncans (JB/59). It screams.
