I do know what you're saying. Problem is, I improvise all my solos and just take the best one. I really liked the way that one sounded so I'll probably stick with it. Not sure I can pull off some of those licks again.

I really need a band. I've always written better with a band. It's a lot easier to be dynamic and less-repetitive with other people playing at the same time. Maybe one day.. if I ever find a drummer.. they don't exist.

LOL. Most people probably don't get this: but do you know "drummer sluts?"

And yes, I am an aspiring drummer slut.

I wish I knew a drummer slut.

I know three drummers.. the one who drummed for my old band, and he was honestly one of the best drummers I've ever heard. Played since he could walk, had a ridiculous kit, gave lessons, versatile, etc. He got married and had three kids. Doesn't play anymore.

I know a phenomenal metal drummer. He lives in Germany right now.

Third drummer sold his kit a few months back to pay for school. He's a good friend of mine, I'm trying to convince him to get another kit. Maybe he'll be an aspiring drummer slut too.

Or, you could move to Columbus instead of WV and play drums. DO IT!

It is easy to drum and you don't need to practice as much as others. Many drummers play in multiple bands at one time because of this. They are called "drummer sluts." Also everyone needs a drummer: there just aren't enough to go around or something.

At least here they are.

So I'm on the market for an 8-string guitar.. any of you ever play one? I'm trying to talk to as many people who have played them as I can.

Up until recently, I never played in any tunings other than standard and an open tuning I used in my old band (open E tuning, down half a step - it's a phenomenal tuning, btw). But I've been listening to a pretty specific genre of metal, and 8 string guitars have such a unique sound that I absolutely love. Have to have one.

Here's a video for reference, if anyone is interested:

hay gise i made another metal song

Yep, unicorns are fighting in the video. The song is a little rough, but it'll work for now.

EDIT: And it does sound a lot like the last song I wrote. I'm fine with that.

Solid as always, man. :banger:

I'm sure you don't intend for it to remain an instrumental piece, so my only gripe is pointless anyway (the repeating of the hooks at the beginning).

------------

Does anyone know of some good strumming/picking tips or resources? Finally picked up a book and am making more progress on notes and chords, but I still struggle with rhythmic and fast strumming, and it doesn't really address strumming/picking technique beyond the bare minimum.

Yeah, this one was intended to have some vocals at some point. I started jamming with a friend of mine and figured I'd try to get into the habit of writing stuff that was easier to put vocals over. It's a pretty simple song.

As far as exercises go, pick up a metronome (or use http://www.metronomeonline.com) and practice along with it at a speed you find comfortable. Once you can play clean at whatever speed, turn it up. That's the best way to build speed and accuracy from my experiences.

I also usually try not to move much more than my wrist if I'm picking single notes. Many use their whole arm and that really slows you down.

Hope that helped/somewhat answered your question.
