I believe I have the same combo amp. Love the sounds you can get from those little guys.

Friend of mine is going to let me borrow his Takemine for a couple of weeks to get a feel for it. Afraid I might dropping some cash on one after.

Yeah, in my IMO, you can't get a better bang for your buck than a Vox.

As for the Takamine...start saving now. :)

Got a new 0% for a year CC on the way to start rebuilding some credit and get some free airfare, so I can get it now and pay it off in a couple months. The one I saw at Guitar Center the other day went about $850, so not too bad. I know I will probably fall in love with the Takamine, but want to try the split saddle first as I get a bit rough with strumming. Actually knocked the e off the saddle on my Fender once when I got a bit to aggressive with a strum style i was messing with.

As for the Vox, I completely agree. Almost bought a Marshall for 2x the price, and glad I didn't. I have the VT40, which is more than enough to rock out my little pad.

Not a guitar, but picked up a Loar LM520 Mandolin.

Learning "Two Step" by DMB. Fun song to play.

Still working on transitioning to/from Bar F chord. I have always cheated and used index finger on high E and B string (1st fret), middle finger on G string (2nd fret) and ring finger on D string (3rd fret). I have no issue playing it that way

I'm looking at picking up a 2012 HSS strat in the original hard case for $650. It has stock fat 50s neck and middle pickups, and a stock humbucker bridge pickup. The bridge humbucker can split into a single coil.

Anything I should be concerned about? Price looks like it's in the right ballpark.

Seems reasonable as long as its in good shape. You probably won't see one for under $500, and that would be a helluva deal.

Yeah... the seller is local, so I'll go see it before I buy it, but it's only had one owner.

I've been looking for a while and the only deals I've seen under $550 are MIMs. I've also seen a few American standards under $600 with humbucking bridge coils, but with tex-mex single coils in the middle and neck. Not sure why they'd be a little cheaper, but I'm guessing that's because you lose that classic strat sound with the tex-mex coils.

Even if I'm buying it used, I'd have to play it before I bought it. I doubt the seller would mind if you took it for a spin. You can discover/rule out any issues that way.

Hell, for under $600, just buy new pickups. So, you're getting a fair deal I think.

I sold three of those maybe 6-7 years ago and that's right around what I got for them iirc. Mine were mint condition (guitars and hard cases). Two were 2000 or 2001 models. The other was a 1996 or so, when they were called Lone Star strats. Great guitars, but I fell in love with my Les Paul...There may still be pics of them earlier in this thread.

edit: pics of the two newer ones are on page 3. pic of the third one has been lost in the intertubes apparently...

FWIW, I know this is a bump of very old thread; however, if you are currently in the market for a new guitar, be aware there are "fake" ones out there too.

Authorities seize 3,000 fake Gibson guitars in Southern California worth $18 million

“These guitars may look real to you, but trust and believe they are not,” said Africa Bell, port director for the Los Angeles-Long Beach Seaport.

Thousands of counterfeit Gibson electric guitars were seized in a multi-agency investigation at the Los Angeles-Long Beach Seaport.

The 3,000 fake guitars, if real, would be valued at about $18 million, according to authorities.

“These guitars… may look real to you, but trust and believe they are not,” said Africa Bell, port director for the Los Angeles-Long Beach Seaport. “They are fraudulent, and they are part of a massive attempt to con the American consumer.”

Bell said the fakes were likely destined for the e-commerce market.

At the news conference in Carson, some of the guitars made to resemble products by the legendary guitar-maker were displayed on tables. Others remained in boxes stacked at least 6 feet high inside the warehouse.

Authorities called it the largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure on record.

“This is a big deal,” said attorney Andrea Bates, who represents Gibson Inc. “They were able to facilitate to identify and to seize $18 million worth of counterfeit guitars. This is something that’s incredibly significant. We are thrilled that they have worked with us and helped take these counterfeit guitars off the market.”

Beth Heidt, Gibson’s chief marketing officer, said the fake guitars were easily recognized by experts. They also would be spotted by any professional guitar player familiar with Gibson’s craftsmanship, she said.
