Our biz is switching from Blackberry to Droids. I'm looking at either the Pro or the X. I'm thinking X. Anyone have experience with either?

Funny. I have to carry a dedicated line around for awhile, and the company in question gave me Blackberry Torch. It seems like going back in time a couple of years after using an android for six months.

Both. Go with the X. Though it is personal preference; anytime I have used a touch screen phone the physical keyboards don't get used. Especially with the X screen size. A better camera and video out may or may not come in handy.

Just bought a droid 2 by Motorola on Verizon. I am impressed with it's functionality so far. I was able to use my my laptop running windows 7 as at hotspot for wifi (deployed..no wireless or even a cell tower that works...) to get a feel for what these phones can do. Needless to say, I have several questions and seek the collective knowledge that is BP.

1. How do I download an install paid apps? Right now I only have access using the method mentioned above. I use appbrain to download and install free apps, but have trouble with the pay ones.

2. What is the best way to root/unroot this phone? It is a droid 2, version 2.2.20.a955, so I assume it is the Froyo OS. I am fairly tech savvy and feel comfortable doing this as long as I have access a well written explanation on how to do it.

3. How do I access/put files on the SD card?

Thanks for the info and yes I'm a total noob when in comes to all things droid.

Question

I have a cell phone for work through Verizon. I need to find a phone that has a PDA so I dont have to carry a PDA and a cell. I do not want the data package..just a cell phone with a pretty visible display. Is there any such beast in today's techno world?

Do some Google searches for "z4root." That's what I used for mine.

I've just used the mini-USB cable that came with mine.

I think you need to shop for a "feature phone." Identify exactly what PDA functions you need and then go to the Verizon Store to see what matches up.

A friend of mine uses this: LG Cosmos Touch. LG has a sync program that should let you copy your Outlook contacts from your computer onto the phone.

More questions....

I installed ROM manager Pro version and Titanium Backup Pro version via the market.

1. How do I backup my current state? I have several apps that I paid for and don't want to lose them. I would like a "square one" option in case I flub something up. Is it like a computer where I can create an image? Confused??????

2. How do I add Mods such as Cyanogen or Liquid Gingerbread? Are these roms even for the Droid2 or does phone type even matter? I really like the look of this one....

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/liquid/118795-liquid-gingerbread-v1-0-preview-release.html

3. After a rom is installed and I decide I don't like it, How do I reload the old one to get back to" square one"?

I know little to nothing about roms (CentralMo and others can help there)

You can re-download apps a million times after you pay for them. When you reset your phone to factory settings and go to that app in the market, you get an option to install since it is already paid for.

First off, before you go nuts with rooting and romming your phone look over the features and decide what the rom has that you like/want. The truth is a lot of people go with a custom rom but end up going back due to stability or performance issues.

I have my Droid and my NexusOne, (US Phone and International Phone) and I have actually moved the Droid back to it's default rom due to the fact that the handset wasn't really powerful enough to fully explore the features.

Now for your questions.

1) For your apps, you can use the batch functions in Titanium, also, when you install a custom rum Clockwork will ask if you want to backup your current rom, say yes and you'll have your phone, apps and all, in their current state in case you lose functionality or you are not happy with the change.

2) Open up the Rom manager, it should detect your phone, ask if you want to install clockwork and list the roms that Koush has in his library for your phone.

The rom you mentioned doesn't appear to be available for your phone, that looks like it's a droid rom. Be careful, while I have rooted and toyed with a ton of Android phones and never bricked one, there's always a risk that you can damage your device if you use an incompatible rom with it.

3) See question one, I think the answer should be the same.
