Alright LSU fans, what do you think of us?

Part of it originated from Ohio U going overboard trying to claim the rights to everything 'ohio.' It's always been the school title.

I think it became "annoying" for outsiders during oneupmanship on Monday Night Football self-introductions.

Ok, I gotta ask this.

Why do y'all put THE in front of Ohio State? It kinda comes off sounding a bit arrogant to the outside world. How did that get started?

it also has gained more since it was stressed as Tradition Honor Excellence, it has always been in the school name (since the switch from a&m and its on the academic logo)

The way I understand it:

Due to a lawsuit between Ohio University & Ohio State, Ohio U has the word "Ohio" trademarked and as such needs "the" infront of it.

I don't know about the trademark thing, but I have heard that lawsuit story more than once.

When this site first started out tOSU lawyers were on the guys here, The logo used to be different. Seems they didn't like the one that we had, iirc it was "Buckeye Planet" in scarlet with the buckeyes and leaves kinda like on the block "O". It got worked out though.

The only time I was in Louisiana was in 1995 for JRTC.

Joint Readiness Training Center

jrtc.gif
Building on the success of the National Training Center which began training armored and mechanized forces in 1981, the Army also recognized that light infantry forces needed similar unit training ... and the Joint Readiness Training Center was born. JRTC training began in 1987 on a test basis at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. The center's headquarters was then located at Little Rock Air Force Base.
The JRTC now makes its permanent home at Fort Polk as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure recommendations approved by Congress in 1991. At a redesignation ceremony March 12, 1993, Fort Polk made the official transition from the home of an Infantry division to the home of a combat training center. The official opening of the JRTC was August 20, 1993. The first training rotation took place at Fort Polk in September 1993.
JRTC's heavy integration of Air Force and other military services, as well as host-nation and civilian personnel, makes its training uniquely realistic. As in a real world situation, light forces depend on the Air Force for airlift, close-air support and resupply. Air Force units have been involved in JRTC exercises to date. Units from the Navy and Marine Corps continue to increase their level of involvement, as have military units from foreign countries.
The JRTC's emphasis on joint-service teamwork becomes even more crucial as the United States reduces the size of its military force.
The combined-arms nature of most contingency missions has drawn heavy armored units into JRTC training. Contingency and special operations soldiers -- including paratroopers, air assault soldiers, Special Forces and Rangers -- are among the first called in a military crisis. They must deploy on short notice and be prepared to fight upon arrival. In most situations, however, they can expect to operate with heavy armored units equipped with tanks and armored personnel carriers. During JRTC training, heavy and light units now team up for a true-to-life training experience. Tomorrow's battlefield will feature highly lethal and mobile weapons systems, and violent combat will determine the victor -- sometimes in a matter of days. JRTC's training strategy provides the key to victory on any future battlefield; leaders with warrior skills and mental agility, and forces trained and ready to win that first battle.

The people were really polite, but the best part was the food. Damn, I love spicy southern food. The Ryans Buffet down there were killer!

They were even upset about 'Ohio Stadium.' I think there's a thread around here somewhere.

Someone (feeling insecure) turned us in for our t-shirt fundraiser :slappy: tOSU thought we were profiting off of the OSU name (like a side business), so that's why they cared about the trademark issues. Once the truth came out, it was worked out. In reality, the t-shirts beared no similarity to OSU besides the color, as they featured the above logo.

While there were two older state chartered universities in Ohio (Miami of Ohio and Ohio U.), in the 1860s the state's political and business leadership made a conscious decision to pass them over to be the state's flagship and land-grant university. In fact, Ohio State's flagship status was written into law in 1906 and stayed that way until 1962. Unfortunately, we had a governor in the sixties and seventies who tried very hard to dumb Ohio State down and impose a false veneer of "no quality differences" among the state's public universities.

Emphasizing the "The" in the name was begun towards the end of this period by our president at the time Ed Jennings as a means of reminding everybody--especially the politicians--that Ohio State was both founded to fulfill a flagship role in the university system over a hundred years prior and no matter what the other colleges said, there were significant quality differences between it and the rest of the state colleges. Personally, I think it's become rather silly now. Rhodes left office in 1982, and Ohio State's rightful status as the state's flagship public university has long ago been fully restored, and I'd like to see it put to rest.

I think your team is slightly overrated because the B10 is down this year. Like it or not your schedule was padded. With that said I also believe that you are good enough to compete with LSU ,if you guys dont give up when the Tigers start laying lumber. (like you did against UF).
Also, You may travel well but please do not even think your numbers will be close to The LSU faithful. If you bring 150,000 to sit outside the stadium they will still be out numbered at least 3 to 1. Good Luck

I'm still holding out hope for some "southern speed" doing the same (the northern model is due for release this spring). That guy in your avatar (and my sig) has been hid well, albeit painfully
If it happens Id be EXTREMELY surprised. Just the fact he's a frosh and its the natl' title game. But, they say this time if yr, you're really no longer a frosh. I do think that we'll put Ray back there a couple times.
And, I think Saine's been somewhat 'hidden' (mainly b/c of injury tho).

Ali Highsmith buckeye fans. If you dont know the name, learn it. The kid is a beast!

Probably true, but a man can dream. The obvious deployment would have been against Michigan, but his legal issues made that difficult. If not for that aspect, I would have trotted him out just to send shivers down UM's spine.

I have complete faith in Boeckman running the show, and getting 'cute' against a defense like this is pretty risky. I've just been dying to see what Henton could bring to the table in a package situation.

Watching some youTube of your team. In SEC terms based on what I saw I would rate you at the same level as Kentucky, Auburn, or Tenn. Defiantly the top half of the SEC. It seems you guys play more like Tenn than any other team in the SEC. There were some comparisons to VATECH on the radio in BR today, but you guys are way more talented than those guys. I would say that Wells is not the best running back we have faced this year that honor goes to McFadden.
