Alabama Crimson Tide (official thread of Football, Fake Championships and Banjo)

I hear the actual reason behind it is an unlawful search of the vehicle and the DA dismissed it without stating such publicly to avoid possible case against them. Honestly, I think the unlawful search of a vehicles should be revoked if the unlawful search finds something like oh gee I don't know stolen weapons and drugs with intent to sell.

Doubt the DA gives a rat's ass about a possible case against police. But he does not want to piss off cops by accusing them of being incompetent boobs who can't create proper paperwork to make the search appear to be valid.

Tunsil lost millions when he slid due to recreational drug use and alleged cash gifts. That is child's play compared to illegal drug and weapon possession.

Robinson was likely headed for 10+ million on draft day before this incident.

If they did conduct an illegal search or even an inadmissible one, the clueless citizen in me wonders if they could face a lawsuit with some pretty substantial damages (and legitimate ones). Obviously I do not know the law.

If that's what happened, then the DA might be engaging in a pretty solid misdirection. They would look incompetent and shady either way, but this way everyone is focusing on his absurdity at choosing to drop the case instead of the incompetence that is possibly hiding beneath the surface.

Yea, I was just looking at pictures for a gram of pot. Looked like a lot. 1 gram is about 1/4 of an eighth. Could fill a bowl maybe twice. Definitely not intent to sell.

Yep. I used to smoke in my younger days. An eighth is 3.5 grams. 1 gram is far, far, far from intent to sell. A judge would laugh that off in a split second.

I never understood this. If the search was illegal and they found nothing, then I get it, there should be some discipline for the officer conducting the illegal search. But if an "illegal" search, still uncovers stolen firearms and drugs, I don't give a damn what anyone says, the perpetrators should never just be given a pass. Saying, "Well, you are a criminal and a threat with drugs and a weapon, but you're all good because we didn't catch you within the rules of our game." It's not as if the perpetrator is playing a game with any rules. That's why they have drugs and a gun.

Now let me say that I do get that if illegal searches were ok, then cops would just stop every car they see for no reason and nobody would have any privacy and things would be beyond ridiculous. But when a cop searches your car and uncovers drugs and weapons, you don't get to walk away. Maybe the officer should get punished if the search was illegal, but you sure as hell aren't going to walk away from charges.

I guess with illegal searches comes an increase in questionable evidence, possible planted evidence and things of that nature so I don't know what the perfect answer is. I just know that letting these "fine young sweating men" off the hook is ridiculous and I highly doubt it happens to some other "fine young non sweating average men."

You should start counting your blessings that Gaturubet isn't around to respond with an 80,000 word thesis on why he disagrees.

Can't we let AlabamaMan have his foosball. He's got nothing else, man. [Mark May]ty schools, [Mark May]ty colleges, no pro sports, no cultural institutions. [Mark May]ty jobs, [Mark May]ty trailers, [Mark May]ty weather, [Mark May]ty people. Just let them have their foosball for Christ's sake.

Yeah, except this arrest was in Louisiana, of Alabama football players.

Odd outcome.

Apologies on my initial post stating "intent to sell" - I read that elsewhere and had heard they had a significant amount - not 1 gram. Hell, i'm probably confusing this case with another one of Alabama's football players arrests.

ps: perhaps I confused it with this case (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf...rams-of-marijuana-in-dorm-room-221720359.html) - shockingly the player was never charged. Or shall I say unshockingly.

FWIW, Frietag wasn't charged, but he was kicked off the team.
