2025 AL CB Na'eem Offord (Ohio St. Soft Verbal)

11W Forums

Listening to Wiltfong talk about Offord this evening, definitely doesn’t sound like a flip is imminent from the way he was talking.

He said Offord and his family still has a level of trust and comfortability in Walton and his development and that’s a big thing for them. He noted how Offord’s older brother could have transferred from Tulane and got a better logo & bigger NIL bag but that’s not a priority for the family.

Per On3:
Naeem Offord’s dad did an interview with ON3 and stated it’s a 3 team race at the last minute between Ohio State, Auburn and Oregon.

“None of them are touching (Buckeyes cornerbacks coach) Coach (Tim) Walton,” the elder Offord said regarding his opinion of who best fits his son’s on-field development.
Just taking his time and seeing how everything goes,” Kaorie said. “Looking at the first half of the college season. I told him he don’t have to rush nothing. Take his time and see how everything plays out.
“I told him I just want him to be comfortable and happy.”
His dad reiterated that they will be in for the Iowa game but if not then for Nebraska.

Wiltfong also said it’s a possibility the family visits Oregon sooner than the Ohio State game.

Doesnt sound terribly discouraging. It’ll be a fight to keep him but I think we all expected that.
I sure as heck expected it. Kid from the deep south with no Ohio ties. Hopefully we hang onto him though, because in the process Woodby decommitted, and Brew/McNutt went elsewhere (I get they likely end up at safety, but speaking of the secondary class in general.

Birm did an excellent job of explaining the situation on a recent podcast.

To paraphrase: He's worth a lot more in NIL to Auburn than tOSU. He's an in state kid for Barn, and Bama is not what they were under Saban. If Auburn can strike while Alabama is reeling, this could change everything for them, and make stupid money doing so.

Didn't think about the impact of that. Home state kid and all. Guess when shoe is on other foot (a la Brew and McNutt), the thought is there, but not for an Alabama player. Makes good sense, especially if Auburn is greasing the palm of the parents as well. Do like Birm's explanation, mostly because it makes tOSU's case look pretty strong. Not to be Negative Nellie, but a loss here won't hurt the Buckeyes as much as the War Eagles. Get that since Bama's 'decline', Auburn senses a hole to run to daylight, and will try to get there. As smarter people than I have said, 'we'll see what we see'. Go Bucks!
