97.1 The Fan (official thread)

Might I suggest "BTN Live" online, if you need a Big Ten fix on the radio.

It's too bad that in a great sports town like Columbus, people are stuck with sub-par local sports shows. The only reason that station might have any ratings are good sports fans and lack of alternatives (outside of iHeartRadio online or SiriusXM).

The only two shows worth anything on that entire station are the Urban Meyer Call-In Show and the Thad Matta Call-In Show, in addition to live Buckeye games. Even Buckeye Roundtable on Monday's has gone downhill (and not worth your time).

Okay I'll give you the "R" word despite the fact I had RD Jr. in mind when I typed it.

As for the rest. :shake: Harsh would be Desmond falling onto a red hot poker that went from his asshole to the roof of his mouth and not being able to work on television or radio anymore. It was a Tweet..A tweet that I'm sure was more about humor than malice. Now, had he offered say $50 bucks for anyone to "off" Desmond, then yeah I'd have a problem with it. Desmond probably isn't even in my TOP 5 espin employees I wouldn't mind seeing get fired, but I wouldn't miss him, because of the espin embargo.

I'm more appalled by the fact that you think this is something someone should, or could be fired over. Let alone a Columbus DJ poking at a scUMmer.

Listen, I don't like scummers as much as the next guy. But seriously, this is taking it too far. We're talking about being affiliated with a team, school, etc vs. hurting a guy, or one's life. That is where I have a problem. Not to say you can't poke fun at a scummer, but to say the things that I've seen in this thread and heard, are classless. There's bigger and better things than to get so wrapped up in a person and threatening them. Jokingly or not. I don't care. You don't make those kinds of statements. I don't care if you call me a whiner, or throw me in with the likes of Herbie on this subject. Whatever. But there's a point where sports/favorite teams/etc have a limit. Ohio State and us fans should be more classy than this. I don't want to be one of those teams, and talked about how we talk about PSU's fans. But hey, its obvious that there's not many that see the same light as me.

Stay classy (or lack there of)

No one threatened Desmond Howard.

Shit, I'm only half-serious when I say I want Harry Potter to destroy all of Nick Saban's Horcruxes.

What does this imply then?

"I wish Desmond would get fired or die. That way I can watch gameday again."

A threat would be "I'm going to kill Desmond so I can watch gameday again."

What he actually said is like people saying they're rooting for a meteor to hit the stadium so they don't have to root for TSUN or ND to win.

It's a joke that implies that Desmond Howard is bad at his job. "I'm going to murder Desmond Howard" is a threat.

yeah okay because you joke about wishing someone was dead? Not funny, and not classy. Especially if you "represent" ohio state on the radio

And okay maybe threaten is the wrong word. However, good luck saying that to the president or secret service.

Other examples:

"I hired a Made Guy to go remove Desmond's head with a hedge trimmer."

"You know that Desmond Howard guy? Well, next week, you won't."

"Desmond Howard's Escalade is gonna get real good gas mileage a week from Tuesday. Especially if you count the distance both up and down."

"I've been training my Doberman with ground-beef mockups of Desmond Howard's penis so he'll be ready for the real thing."

I'm not calling you a whiner. I just disagree with you. I just don't see a threat to hurt anyone in that tweet.

Some people will not find humor in your examples.
