#7 Georgetown 70, #2 Ohio State 52 - NCAA Tournament (Final)

Tough loss to swallow...there were two keys to our loss:

-Giving up offensive rebounds
-Not scoring after 3-4 consecutive stops

I remember being down six and they got another offensive board and tipped the ball in. That's when I started to sink into my chair...

They did better than I thought in beating Davidson for which I will have to eat some crow. So I"m not surprised at all how thoroughly they got dominated and embarrassed by a mid level Big East team. This team was basically playing with smoke and mirrors for most of the Big Ten season and since they beat MSU, it caught up to them. Of course, the Big Ten has proven to be a pretty crappy conference. The fact that Terence Dials, a good player but not even close to a superstar, was the MVP shows how mediocre this league was. In the end, 1 big man who can barely rebound and a group of 3 guards who can shoot but can't drive won't get you anywhere.

I'm excited to see what Matta can do with Oden and the boys. If he can turn an NIT caliber team into Big Ten champs, the sky is the limit.

I also hate to say it, but the Big Ten got exposed this week. As much as I wanted to think we were as good Illinois and MSU were supposed to be before the season started, you can make the case that Illinois and MSU simply were not very good at all - at least not by traditional Big Ten standards. GTown - as they played today (and that was not much different than their first round game) - is better, and more talented, than any team in the Big Ten.

BTW - for anyone who has not seen Oden play Hibbert comes as close as anyone I have seen this season. But Oden is much more mobile.

Agree. The Big Ten had absolutely zero superstars this year and it showed in the tournament.

(7) GEORGETOWN 70, (2) OHIO ST 52

DAYTON, Ohio (Ticker) -- Roy Hibbert and Georgetown were not intimidated by Terence Dials, Ohio State and a partisan crowd.

Hibbert collected 20 points and 13 rebounds as the seventh-seeded Hoyas defeated the second-seeded Buckeyes, 70-52, to advance to the semifinals of the Minneapolis Region. Georgetown (23-9) will face third-seeded Florida in the "Sweet 16."

Ohio State (26-6) had been the last of six Big Ten Conference teams in the tournament.

The Buckeyes, who were playing barely an hour from their home in Columbus, boasted Big Ten Player of the Year Dials, who had another fine performance with 19 points.

But the sophomore Hibbert more than held his own inside, helping the Hoyas to their first trip to the regional semifinals since 2001.

Jeff Green added 19 points and Ashanti Cook 17 for Georgetown, which shot 47 percent (27-of-57) and limited the Buckeyes to just under 40 percent (19-of-48).

Ohio State whittled a 13-point halftime deficit to 54-48 on a three-point play by Dials with 5:11 to go, but Hibbert countered with a jumper to trigger a 16-4 run to close the game.

the hype for next year will be very interesting. UNC, Kansas, and OSU look to be quite stacked. There are others, but those were the sexy picks to put on the preseason mags. All three were bounced out early in the tourney by "nobodies".

Thanks for the great season guys. It may have ended sooner than we liked, but it is good to have this man at the helm:

The one good thing about having your ass handed to you on a platter is that you don't have to stew over the "would haves" and "Could have's." We got manhandled, plain and simple by a better team. Don't think so? Bowman goes off for "0" and we still lose by 18.

That aside, this was a great season by a team that I expected to win about 16-17 games. The future looks bright. Too bad our "Graduating Seniors" Terrence and JJ won't be around for it.

Thanks TM and crew for a wonderful ride.

Exactly. The team overachieved all year long, and today they did get exposed. In fact the Big 10 got exposed. Course any other year it would be the ACC or the Big East getting exposed, so at least we got the false advertisement for once

Great season, proud of those guys for it. Now bring on football season :)

I liked what Kellog said today, that it doesnt have a lot to do with the conferences getting exposed, but more with the matchups.

I am sure alot of teams would get exposed by GTown if they played like they did today. I bet that big guy hasnt made a spin move like that all season. They played with a lot of confidence today and they deserve a ton of credit. We lost our focus at times, which is very weird considering the number of seniors.

Playing winning basketball isn't at all about having superstars. G'Town just proved that today.
One team who is playing team basketball and hustling on the boards will beat another team who is playing one-on-one with the other 4 guys standing around watching. It was beautiful to watch G'Town's offense today - or would have been if it hadn't been against our guys.

When I saw the brackets, I knew this was the end of the road...I shouldn't say "knew" but "feared" is accurate. The B10 tourney showed how cold the perimeter was...icy in fact. The lack of Twig to help out, the collapsing on Dials to force the perimeter, etc....it all added up. The only way to beat the Hoyas was balance...we didn't have it. I'm a little hurt, but who really expected this season from the beginning? They played hard, they showed Thad's system, they showed how much of a difference Thad makes.....and they showed what to expect next year when Thad's bunch arrives.

Be upset, but be proud. The best days of this team are coming.
