So I'm guessing that Animal House, Caddyshack, and Patton are #53, #54 and #55 on LJB's list. Cinematography at its finest.

I like the inclusion of The Searchers, I think John Ford is one of the greats.
I saw The Leopard, and personally, I wouldn't include it on any list of movies that I'd recommend to anybody. I don't have anything against period pieces, costume dramas, or foreign language films, but I found it pretentious and boring. To each his own.

Folanator;1878074; said:No disrespect BL, I certainly have heard other people say that. That was one of the most simplistic movies ever. Some neo-natzi kills a dude by stomping his head, goes to jail and sees the light because he is be-friended by a black guy, he repents and comes out all kumbya? Sorry, I am lumping that one in with Deerhunter and Scarface as the most overrated of all time.

Bucklion;1878082; said:Well that may be true, but his intensity alone is enough to put it above 75% of the crap that is out there IMO. I dunno, I guess I don't see it as simplistic...I think I liked it because it dealt with subject matter in a more mature and complex way than most movies are willing to. The intensity of the racism, the fact that there was actually a reason behind his racism besides the old "he's just a braindead white guy who doesn't know any better", the fact that no one was anywhere close to perfect in the film, but that even the most bitter racist 'might' have good qualities underneath, the fact that he only saw the light after being raped in prison, how fast all his 'friends' turned on him, the face he saved himself in a way but couldn't save his brother, who he had lured into the whole thing...it's not subject matter that the PC crowd wants studios to make.
Folanator;1878097; said:I think the ending was over-simplistic. Clearly the subject matter was edgey, and EN was amazing. But, I think the simplistic nature of the ending did not do justice to the deeply entrenched hatred that the Neo Nazis carry in their hearts. That runs too deep to change becasue one guy befriends you in jail. My 2c. I liked it, it's just not a must see or top 50 movie IMO.
Scarface. Liked the first 1/2 of the movie. The escape from Cuba, the camps, the rise to the top all very interesting. The piles of coke on the desk, the fight against 100 Columbians with his little friend...blah. It did have some memorable quotes though. I liked Michele Phiefer's boobies...
