Mark May's riffing on the NCAA now. Making a few idiotic comments in there. Typical.
The NCAA is a fraud though.
OSU_Buckguy;1839213; said:agreed. after all, no can of worm would be opened if the ncaa permits student-athletes selling jerseys, rings, and whatever else. i mean, it's not as though boosters would use this market as a means to funnel thousands and thousands of dollars to key players. i mean, it's not as though boosters would promise recruits that they will get a ton of money for the future sale of their goods.
Class'13;1839224; said:Oh geez. He said that the only reason they are playing in the Sugar Bowl is because they are from the Big Ten. Any SEC player, like Ryan Mallet, would be suspended from the Bowl Game, no question. Its because the Big Ten is the NCAA's sacred cow.
thank you for the information. mike isn't excused for what he did, but i doubt many of us here wouldn't have done the same. if my parents were suffering horrible hardships and if i were not in a position to make money, i would likely do the same thing that mike did.GomerBucks;1839216; said:Here is what I can tell you about Mike Adams. During the time that these offenses took place, his mother was laid off, his father had a stroke and his cousin (was seriously like a sister) died. His family was seriously strapped and going through MAJOR turmoil. Mike, in his case, did what he felt he had to do.
Craig James makes some good points...
yes, you -- that is, the ncaa -- can tell them what to do. this is not a legal matter. you do understand the difference, don't you? the ncaa has every right to determine what the players can and cannot do with their jerseys, rings, etc. don't blame the ncaa for players abusing the rules. pryor, posey, and the rest knew full well that it was against the rules to sell their items.strohs;1839225; said:You gave them the rings, gold pants, etc, you cant tell them what to do with it afterwards. If your worried about players selling their stuff, then dont give them anything until after they leave the school.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said the school will appeal the suspensions.
Gene Smith is already on record as saying that they will be appealed. i.e. They have to follow through with the appeal.
