2025 tOSU Offense Discussion

A look into the future.

His compact and quick release is about the best I have seen. Throw that in with quick play comprehension and obviously the arm strength/accuracy, and you get why he was rated so highly coming in (and why other QBs left). I don't care about his size frankly, the kid has insane potential and taking over the reigns at QB1 from the start will allow him to settle into that role quickly.

I rewatched some of the playoff games for the 100th time today and an underrated part of this offense next year is going to be how physical they’re going to be. With the OL we’ll have and 89/85 returning at TE that’s a really physical bunch.

The tight ends returning specifically are going to be a damned problem for teams. That’s doesn’t even include the kid from Purdue who’s going to be a real problem underneath for teams.

There’s also an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions. OSU could have 5 WRs that could start, a solid pair at RB and multiple options to find their spare. And Day just needs to keep reminding whoever’s the QB starter that they don’t need to be heroes. Take what the defense gives them just like Howard

I think Padilla needs a shot there. In the playing time he got early on his snaps were fine.
Padilla should be set to play and I've always been a fan of him, but Hinzman had a hell of a season so he would need to bump out to guard...Hinzman is a starter on the interior no matter what. I must have missed snap issues with Hinzman if that was happening, but we have to keep in mind that Hinzman was primarily prepping to play OG until Seth got hurt and was probably a little rusty on snaps. Also keep in mind that Seth was lambasted

I think we see a scenario where at least one of Tegra, Montgomery and/or Siereveld bump out to tackle even with the Portal guys we got at OT. I see Montgomery more as a RT anyways and Tegra was originally projected there as well, both just played inside mostly out of necessity imo. There will be some movement on the OL, but I think Hinzman at center when he practices there for the next 7 months makes the most sense to me. You want experience at the center position and Padilla can be a swing player at center and guard.

Honestly we have one of those "good problems" on the interior if we can sort out the tackle situation. Oh and a coach at OL of course.

Re Hinzman-go watch the last drive against ND (or any drive against ND really) his shotgun snaps kind of die early and Howard has to consistently reach down, get it off his shoe tops and then look back up at the defense.

I think they moved Hinzman off Center for a reason. Maybe he can clean it up but maybe they need to move some guy around.

The only thing that matters is that it gets cleaned up somehow because a new QB doesn't need that extra bit of distraction. I'm quite sure the coaches know this, it's just something you can see and to talk about in the off season.

Definitely an off season chat but I would have to go back and watch the ND game for that issue. I think Hinzman had issues not related to snaps leading up to this season that led to us getting McLaughlin in the portal (I would posit that his physical development was not there until this year and he couldn't get the leverage he needed).

I say this because Seth was lambasted about his snaps at Bama, then came here and it became a non-issue on his way to a Rimington Trophy. Snaps are about repetition and comfort level at the position, which I think would fix any kinks there pending good coaching on the issue if Hinzman just focuses on that position. We definitely need Padilla ready to go there though regardless, injuries happen.

Agreed 100% that Sayin needs clean snaps to really operate and be in rhythm, I just believe Hinzman would be able to correct any deficiencies there with so much time before the first game if it is made a focal point.

Hopefully he can make those improvements because he did play a lot better. Ideally, I'd still have him at guard and Padilla (if good enough) at center because Hinzman looked great there and it gives the center another guy who has experience making calls right next to him.

'25 is going to be a lot of fun on offense. They won't be as efficient, but probably more explosive and flexible.
