2025 tOSU Offense Discussion

It seems like maybe people are taking this idea that we will instantly carve up any man defense a little too far to me.

They are going to bring serious pressure with that man defense and Will Howard is going to be put under duress.

He's been prone to mistakes, to be gentle about it.

The more I think about it, the more I think this game comes down to which defense affects the opposing QB the most or conversely, which QB plays his game the best.

If Day and Kelly keep the looks for ND simple and try to have Will just beat them from the pocket, I think there could be problems. If they come out with pre-snap motion, misdirection, bunch formations, and quick throw RPOs and screens mixed in with in the pocket play action shots, I think the offense will roll. There's still enough scar tissue for me that "how much do I trust the coaches to keep the team loose and make ND adjust to them rather than the other way around?" is the main source of lingering anxiety.

He’s actually been really good against pressure so please I hope they do. Their defensive line isn’t a top 4 that we’ve played this year. While their secondary is probably right up there with Texas they are missing their best corner.

If they roll out the same man defense with tons of pressure someone is going to be open and it’s likely Chip/Day will have something to make them pay eventually.

The way I see this game is we are better than last year and they are worse than last year. They couldn’t break 14 points vs us and that was with two NFL tackles. Now they lose their LT the week of the game and they have to find an answer at RG while playing the best defensive line they’ve played?

I agree it’ll come down to the LOS and thankfully I think we have an advantage when facing both of their LOS units.

Out of the teams that OSU has played in the CFP, where would you rank ND? I don't think they're better than any of the previous 3 teams or scUM. And they've been pretty weak in the run game. Utilizing Judkins to beat the DL between the tackles and then Treveyon to change the pace and possibly break a HR is very feasible. And then that should set up the passing game, and that's where the mismatches will show up in the play action game, IMO

Yeah I hear you, maybe for the BMW thread but on paper I agree, I don't see a big threat. Then I remember a 20+ point underdog with no good players in the secondary, an imbecile at QB and no WR's back in November that found a way to suck OSU down into a rock fight and get Howard to give them 2 turnovers.

I do not posses the DNA nor the life experience that allows me to be overly confident here.

It's too obvious OSU should beat the Domers by 80.

Which is why this game kinda terrified me lol

ESPN Predicts Ohio State Buckeyes' 2025 Starting QB

ESPN has made their prediction for who will start at quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2025.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are gearing up for their national championship game matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in just under a week. After what has been a rollercoaster of a season, they have a chance to end up on top.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Ohio State looks like a team that should be a top-tier contender to compete for another national championship. However, there have been some questions about their quarterback situation.

Will Howard will be leaving this offseason after graduating, which leaves two quarterbacks expected to battle it out for the starting job.

Both Julian Sayin and Tavien St. Clair are young and inexperienced quarterbacks. They are both also extremely talented and could end up being being stars.

With that being said, ESPN has made their projection for who will end up starting under center.

"The former five-star prospect landed at Ohio State only after enrolling at Alabama and entering the transfer portal after Nick Saban's retirement last January. Now, with Will Howard (NFL draft), Devin Brown (Cal) and Air Noland (South Carolina) all elsewhere, the path is clear for Sayin to step into the Buckeyes' starting role. Sayin got into only four games during his freshman season, but he impressed Ohio State's coaching staff with his development behind the scenes. In 2025, the pressure of the Buckeyes' quarterback job will fall on Sayin's shoulders as Ohio State turns to its youngest starter since C.J. Stroud took the reins in 2021."
