2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments - NCAA: no wins taken away, no postseason ban

Exactly. The scouting they did is "illegal" That alone means it confers a benefit beyond what the Rules say are permissible. I mean, you're not wrong about intent. It bolsters the argument, for sure. But I don't think you even need to get to intent.

Yeah, I broke into the house, but you can’t prove I actually stole anything, so you can’t charge me with B&E, right? This is chicanery. What a sick joke.

I will say this... my sense of frustration is certainly aggravated by the fact I'm a Buckeye, but if this was any other school, I'd still be able to make the argument above. I simply do not understand the COI's failure to see that. I suppose they'd rest on "there was not any ineligible players, so vacating wasn't in play" but, that's beside the point as argued above, and also, you've done it before without ineligible players in other circumstances, one of which the NCAA had no frigging jurisdiction over (which is why the wins were restored). Jurisdiction isn't an issue here.

The lesson we learned today kids is that our parents lied to us. Cheaters really do prosper.

Woody be rolling in his grave right now
This is way worse than illegally paying players. You still have to do the work to develop and coach those players. Ask A&M how paying a roster with shit coaching works out.

Now I'm going to be wondering if every single CFB game I'm watching is tainted somehow.

And it was a bunch of lawyers on the COI?

Unfucking believable.

I truly wonder how much of the decision not to punish Michigan could be tied to legal implications when it comes to sports wagering.

I’d imagine there were some class action lawsuits on deck, had the NCAA vacated wins and plainly stated the cheating altered outcomes of games and therefore impacted money placed on the games.

By taking the stance they did, I think the NCAA navigated really choppy waters, and bailed one of their “cash cows” out….$20-$25M is nothing compared to the damages they could’ve accrued in lawsuits and legal fees.

This is a disgusting outcome. I keep thinking of all the players and partners who had their personal health data and images violated as part of the wider cheating scandal and violations of interstate computer crimes. Stalions was not the entire case and breaking it down into pieces as they have is unacceptable. The NCAA caved to threats of legal action, lack of cooperation, and revenue implications.

The NCAA response is quite simply, "We have no honor. We are feckless and toothless."

Here is what all other universities can take away from this. The NCAA is a feckless and toothless organization. Universities should refuse to cooperate with investigations and threaten legal action at all times during the investigation.

Ohio State should take immediate steps to step away from the NCAA and work with other B1G and SEC teams to form an alternative.
