2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

What is the function of the Committee on Infractions then?

It is not run like a traditional court trial, yes, but there is a final arbiter, because there is an appealable decision. Somebody listens to both sides and makes a ruling.
I suspect that it’s like your dad being the arbiter when your mom handed out punishment.

Sure, there could be something overruled… but dad knows better.

The presidents and trustees have fuck all to do with the punishment.
Yes. But they do have to respond to it.

In the case of Michigan, the interim president, Grasso, might/might not have to reorder much of his athletic department at a time when his large research budget is being threatened. If the punishment matches what we think it should be, he will also have to consider using tuition money to cover the loss of football revenue.

I'm sure Carter at Ohio State is planning a response to the NCAA's decision, especially if Michigan walks. I'd be surprised if other university presidents in the conference aren't figuring out what their response will be. In the meantime, all of them are stuck with questions regarding research monies, admission, and hiring policies.

Does that clear up what I was trying to say earlier?

What does ending DEI have to do with the topic of this thread? Why do we give a shit about what university presidents and trustees have to worry about related to research funding and being forced to hire qualified white people again in the middle of a thread on a rival football team? You're spending time thinking about how they will craft strongly worded letters in response to punishments handed out by the COI? Should we feel sorry for them? What's your point?

That is the COI
I think you misunderstand what I was saying. I was not saying that I think that Scum will skate, or should skate on what they did. Quite the opposite. I hope they fry.

My point is there is due process with this, and there is a deciding tribunal, the COI, which is made up of different people that hear the evidence from the NCAA investigators, and of course Scum has an opportunity to respond. This kind of reminds me what transpires during professional licensure hearings.

The COI renders a decision. Sometimes the rules aren't gray like people think, and a square peg can't fit into a round hole. It is possible, maybe slim, but possible, that the COI agreed with Scums counsel that even if they did everything alleged, the current law as written, and precedent does not apply, or the infraction does not fall in line to the extent everybody believes it does. I made a prior post arguing that if there is a ridiculous decision, it may come as a consequence of outside factors that may be at play, that may be sliming up the gum works.

I was making conjecture on how a ridiculous punishment can come about.

Sorry, I am an attorney, and sometimes I can't help but see it from different angles.

I hope Scum gets slammed. We shall soon find out.
