2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

Didn't the 1-4 seeds all get knocked out in their first game? Doesn't say much for winning a conference championship or getting a first round bye.

It will be different this year. Last year, bad conference champs got the byes, and the #1 overall seed ended up having to play the real best team in the second round. If Oregon had been on the opposite side of the bracket, that rematch might have been the championship game. If an undefeated tOSU and Indiana play in the Big 10 CCG both will likely still get a bye this year, barring a tOSU/Oregon style curb stomping in Indy.

After the round of 4 home games, the lower seed won the remaining 7 games..

5-6-7-8 beat 1-2-3-4, 7-8 beat 5-6, and 8 beat 7 for the Natty.

I think if they ran this model 20 more years, last year would stand out as an anomoly.
1 was boned when Ohio State lost to the cheaters and fell to #6 (and to a #8 seed).
2 was boned when they lost their quarterback.
3 was boned because they're Boise State.
4 was boned because they're Arizona State.
5 got boned because they had to play Ohio State.
6 was boned because they're Penn State.
7 lost because they had to play Ohio State.

Look for tejas to get every possible benefit of the doubt. They want Starch in that playoff. They need Starch in that playoff.

I don't doubt at all that they would screw over a 2 loss ACC or Big 12 team who got their 2nd loss in the conference title game for a 3 loss Texas.

I don't think SMU last year set a precedent, it just ended up giving them future justification for taking the 3 loss SEC team over a 2 loss ACC type team who took their 2nd loss in the CCG

I was really hoping Arizona State would beat Texas for the opposite reason - to justify leaving mid-pack SEC teams out.

Difference between Big Ten and SEC is illustrated starting around 3:50 into this video. They start talking about a possibility of a 5th SEC team to get into the playoff, and then it goes into a discussion of which conference will get more teams in.

My thoughts:
1. I don't care how many Big Ten teams get in. Fuck the SEC, but I don't care how many Big Ten teams get in. Put Ohio State in and watch us try to win.
2. They seem to be really interested in having the SEC get more teams get in. (I'm not surprised.)

Are they showing their SEC homerism, or are they trying to find things to talk about?

I don't care how many B1G teams get in either but you know they are just itching to maximize SEC teams every year because they know eventually most of them will happen to win their games and advance and then they can use that one occurrence from that point on to justify why the SEC should get half the field every year
