Well either...
a)
This is single-sourced info from a source I implicitly trust. At least a few high-dollar UM boosters have been pitched on increasing NIL contributions specifically to counteract "scholarship reductions and other potential sanctions" that could begin next year.
It appears their plan involves cash infusions to keep guys to stay thru the punishment period.
The boosters didn't pony up enough NIL money to keep Olesh

or

b)
That seems like one of those things that sounds good on paper, however, will the kids want to be in a program that is stagnant for a few years? Probably not....Everybody is paying. There is no loyalty.
He just didn't want to go through the sanctions at scUM

Then again maybe it was a combination of both......

Also worth remembering that UM didn't own, accept, or self-impose a single thing.
Harbaugh and Stalions were both allowed to resign. No self-imposed sanctions. Thumbing their nose at the NCAA the entire way.
Interestingly, the only staffer fired for their behavior was Weiss... and that's not even part of this NOA.

Wasn't Partidge fired?

Dang, you're right. Forgot about him.
(And... getting caught coaching kids to lie to NCAA investigators, they really didn't have a choice)

While we're here:
I don't know for sure what *will* happen. Nobody knows for sure what will happen. Anyone telling you that they know - cough-dot-buckeye-scoop - is lying.
My information over the past year has come from folks well-positioned to know. We've known the trajectory of the investigation, we've broken milestones about NOA review and delivery, and we know for certain the approach that enforcement staff has been taking for the past 14 months. We know the framework offered up to UM in a negotiated agreement, and we know that UM has declined all opportunities to settle and move on.
Folks still talk and we're learning more and more on the regular. We're about 3 weeks from their reply being due without further opportunity to delay.
The the fun starts.

OSU was scouted multiple times by the impermissible scheme last season. When their scheme was uncovered, Stalions removed a hard drive and call sheet from the football facility.

Back in the summer, effective August 1- The NCAA made some changes and one of them was the level of fines a program may receive.
Increased fines
The council also voted to increase the minimum fines for Level I and Level II violations from a starting point of $5,000 to a range of $25,000-50,000, depending on the level of the violations and any relevant aggravating or mitigating factors in a case. The change also increases the potential percentages of additional financial penalties from 1% to up to 10% of a sports program's budget, depending on the level of the violations and aggravating and mitigating factors in a case.
The change comes after feedback from NCAA members, including recommendations from the LEAD1 Association, that support more significant fines in the infractions process as a meaningful penalty or deterrent.
TCUN has an approximately 255 million football budget. If they keep pissing the NCAA off, they could get up to a 25.5 million dollar fine. If they are flinging money around, might as well get it from those that like to "show boat" and think they are smarter then the other party.

Just sayin': A $25.5M fine against scUM would be cool.....:gagnam:

Barstool will pay it without noticing it's gone. Fines as punishment mean it's only illegal for poors. The ncaa would be sending a strong message to the mountain west by fining ttun 25 mil

Big time.

That’s like 12-13 million extra blowjobs Boise’s truck stop mob would have to come up with.

I just don’t know if there are that many new truckers.

Agree. While there will never be television bans again (there should be in this case), a post-season ban and roster reductions are the only real meaningful punishments. In the case of tcun, I'd add stripped titles because that has become the very core of their existence.

If it was just about money, the deal would be done.

Portnoy talks alot. Barstool money is going nowhere near Scum. He said he would give 2 million a year for a QB, then we find out it is Larry Ellison money.

He just trolls.

I'll just leave this shit here. If anyone still thinks this isn't their culture. Fuck them.

Can't wait for the ncaa to plant a nice long suspension on that piece of shit.
