First, it's not just huddling. A LOT of teams are huddling this year. It's a natural offshoot of helmet communications. Ohio State is second only to Army in fewest overall plays per game; there are a lot of teams below Ohio State that huddle, yet run a lot more plays.tOSU is using the huddle. I think they started using this when the OL was making mental errors and false starts. The huddle allows the OL to focus. No sacks less penalties it’s working . I thought we needed the opposite but I was wrong. Value each play don’t worry about how many plays. Is this way Kelly or Day don’t care it’s effective.
Granted, huddling is part of it, but just a part. And to the extent that it has been a part of it, it has been a part of it from the beginning. Ohio State huddled after the second play of the year, the drop by JJ that would have been a score; and that was when they were still running off of the script. They've been huddling (mostly) literally all year. Day said they would huddle a lot before the year ever started.
