Woody began with a losing season including a loss to Indiana. I was in the shoe more than once when piper cubs circled the stadium pulling signs that called for his scalp. I was a photographer on the sidelines when he lost to Northwestern… At Home. It’s a tough racket and great coaches are going to have lean years.

I’m at a loss to explain the last two games against Michigan, but Day lost two shots at the NC by way of blatantly wretched calls. My concern is that while the Bucks have recruited and produced incredible offensive talent, both Day and Urbs seemed to overstock talent at the expense of the defense.

As for Day having to go, barring a complete collapse, Ohio State will remain a prime destination for any coach because of all the asset’s inherent in the program.

Couldn't find the OLine thread, so here goes. Didn't one of the guards start as the #2 center in the nation? It seems to me, that his transition to Center (given all the hullabaloo about the play starting there...) would be a tad easier than taking a sophomore guard - who didn't play last year (?) and making him the center. It looks like we've got alot of depth at guard, so (being the rational fellow that I am), the drop-off at center would be less (if the guard slid over), than Hinzman, than the drop-off at guard if (name escapes me) one of the backups Viahme (sp?) slid into the guard position. Nowhere near an insider, but if Frye is as good as they say, this fairly obvious option must have been explored. Any thoughts?

I think Matt Jones is the OL that was a high ranked center prospect. It's a good question, and I'm sure it's been talked about. My guess is that they want at least 2 positions to be locked in rather than moving over Jones and then having 4 positions with new starters. It also means that all 3 new starters will be next to an upperclassman with experience, which is probably very helpful.

My hope is that they also have a lot of confidence in how Hinzman communicates and it made it easier to start fresh and go with him.

If you like It, then I love it. I still am confused over how much analysts help. But a former NFL HC says something

I’m assuming at the very least (just spouting off speculation) that an experienced coach — serving as an analyst — can contribute really well to game prep and reporting. Moreover I think they can provide mentorship and feedback to position coaches (in his case, not necessarily if you’re in your first role on a high-level staff).

But yeah, like you said — not sure how much; but there has to be some sort of value added. I’m assuming Day had/has outlined a vision for what his role would be also. Probably a really good question at a presser or something assuming Day feels like offering an insightful answer. He was kinda raw this spring it seemed so it’s cool to see him evolve as a HC

is something afoot with hartline? is philbin coming on board as an OC-in-waiting?
i have no inside info. i'm just asking / speculating...
My guess is Philbin was hired to assist the offense as a whole and provide some mentorship to younger coaches like Hartline and Frye. And it helps that Philbin was a former OL coach, I'm sure that can be a big assistance to Frye.

Oh, I didn't think about that one. Look at you playing 4D chess
Just s guess, but it makes more sense to me than anything else regarding the existing staff.

Most likely it it's a way for him to make some easy cash and the Buckeyes to get someone with a lot of experience who may be able to identify something that will turn a FG into a touchdown a few times this year.

On the BM5 this morning, Matt Baxendale said that this is a Saban-esque hire. As its ben rumored for years that Bama has essentially a "shadow staff" that has similar credentials to the FT assistants. With the recent off season hires of guys like JL, Mike Dawson, Gerren DuHart, that's along with having Todd Fitch, a lot of experience is being added to work with players on campus while the assistants travel and recruit
