Looking at PFF grades from Saturday and Eichenberg (56.1) was the worst graded defensive player. Chambers (58.7) was a hair above him. Simon (72.2) was the third highest.

From watching the games, I'm starting to feel like the defense has kind of moved beyond Tommy. I like the guy. He's obviously a smart dude, but the advantage he brought to the D is kind of slipping away. He was always the most mentally there and I think he stood out for it because of how out of position the rest of the D usually was. Now that the rest of the defense has it together, I think it just highlights Tommy's athletic deficiencies.

I see him constantly getting washed away from the play. He's no longer the aggressor or attacker, but getting lost more in blocks

Day said the confidence, energy and swagger of Ohio State's current defense reminds him of the Buckeyes' defense from 2019, which featured All-Americans Chase Young, Jeff Okudah and several other stars.

In 2019, Ohio State allowed 260 yards and 13.7 points per game to its opponents. Through seven games in 2023, the Buckeyes have held their opponents to 260 yards and 10 points per game, numbers that rank fourth and third in the NCAA.

“That’s championship-level defense,” Day explained. “And if we keep growing as a team, we’ll be tough to beat here down the road.”

Simon is clearly playing the best ball at LB right now. With his vision, ability to read plays quickly and strong run support we should see a lot of him up in Madison.

There is a strong chance we go with a 3 LB scheme most of the game, but if we go 2 LBs in this one, needs to be Simon and Eich. Simon has been the most impressive LB for us this year.

The Silver Bullets are now

#1 in pass defense (rating)
#1 in total defense (ypp)
#2 in scoring defense (but #1 are cheaters)
Speaks for itself. This D is special and has been all season long. And the thing is that it is just getting better week by week. The goal line stand against Wisky at the end of the first half was amazing. First half stats for the team in Madison was 94 total yards and 3 points. Before their last drive they totaled a whopping 42 yards and zero points. For the entire game they were 6 for 16 on 3rd downs. This is where we are winning the games. Case in point is that PSU was 1 for 16 on third downs. Still no plays over 40 yards after 8 games. Only giving up an average of 10 points a game. Despite our Offensive struggles, if the D keeps this up we will be playing for a NC in January.

Love it. Defense was feeling good and got into it.

Part of me sees that and thinks, “how about you save some of that energy for stopping the 3rd and 15 from their own TWO that they completed right after this!”

Then I remember being that age and having plenty of energy to spare

*sigh*
