Oh no, no,no my friend. You may not do much Leaders and Besting but a significant percentage of your fan base act like it’s some kind of ethos for their fellow superior beings. The same sort that revel in the enmity of their foes for the cult of baseless arrogance up there.
There really is nothing out there that explains their culture as this.

So are you arguing that Michigan fans *DO* care about those things and it wasn't just an excuse for losing?
Cause it feels like it's one or the other. And if it's just an excuse, then I dunno why I should get worked up about failing to live up to our fight song... while we're winning.
The thing here is this... every school and team has a fight song. Most, if not all, have this kind of language in them.

Where TSUN and its fans / ilk / flock / acolytes kind of take the cake and are, in a way, "unique" is that while most schools and fans take the language in their fight songs as something aspirational and figurative, those over-bloated and self-rigtheous dildos take the language in their fight song as a literal truth and something they are / have been / and will continue, forevermore, to be entitled to... and everyone else would be better off just recognizing that.

Right so again, I ask you; do you sincerely believe Michigan fans actually believe all that crap? Cause I'm a Michigan fan and I don't believe most other Michigan fans believe that crap; I'm not just talking about myself here, I think Michigan fans lie and make excuses like every other fanbase that thinks it belongs at the top tiers of college football. I think that crap about "leaders and the best" and "Harvard of the Midwest" is what you tell yourself when you're going 9-4 every year and you're not winning championships.

It's why I made the distinction between Mike and Rico; Mike is saying Michigan FANS are hypocrites. Rico appears to be admonishing us for not actually BEING the leaders and the best. Which seems real silly to me. I don't believe Rico really believes the Michigan program has anything to do with aspirational catchphrases, I think it's kayfabe to rile up the screws listening on the drive home. And that is very funny to me.

But I mean if you honestly believe these sad sack geezers going on about "academic standards" and "doing it the right way" aren't just making excuses for all the times we weren't good enough; I could see how it might sound like a cutting remark. I just don't think they do, so I wouldn't expect that insult to carry much water.

Edit: I guess I would just add here that if you got into an argument with a Michigan fan today, do you think they'd talk about our team GPA or winning in The Shoe? The fact that we, as a fanbase, don't talk about grades or morals when we're winning seems like a big tip that it's just loser excuse-making. And if you're saying Michigan fans are the worst for loser excuse making; oh man, I agree with you so much about THAT one. It's almost a religious ritual with this fanbase whenever we lose.

I absolutely believe that the vast majority TOTALLY believe in that crap. I think that they think it's their birthright. Entitlement personified.

Why?

Because way back in the day they were blocked from entering Harvard due to their lack of social status as a kind of a non-gentile "minority". So, although back then it was probably justified and morally uplifting to have this chip on their shoulder and have a deep belief that they were, actually, the destined people or whatever, they've never gone back to check if that origin story still applies.

This whole time, I've been trying to figure out why Michigan didn't just re-negotiate Harbaugh's contract and tell him to call his brother's agent off; and you'll forgive me if I don't buy the theory that Warde "Even I Don't Know What I Do Here" Manuel was playing hardball with Ann Arbor's chosen son in a power struggle everyone already knows the AD would lose. I think I'm starting to see the larger picture tho:

https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-re...rbaughs-refusal-to-say-he-lied-055122831.html

If I had to guess, Manuel was adamant that Harbaugh sign the agreement saying he lied. Harbaugh refused and Warde baulked at negotiating further. So Jim loops in his brother's agent and creates the "Harbaugh to the NFL" circus until Ono's hand is forced and he neuters the AD by conducting negotiations with Harbaugh himself; negotiations that include agreeing to fight this out for at least a year. By which time JJ, Corum and Edwards will all be going to the NFL and Jim can ride off into the sunset flipping double birds at the NCAA on the way out.

There may be more stuff involving whatever the heck is going on with Weiss, but I think it's almost certainly about Michigan fighting the NCAA allegations long enough for Jim to get his last, best team through the season. Or at least, that's what it looks like to me now that we've got more info.

Or Weiss was worried about his job so he was hacking into Jimbo's email to try and figure out what's really going on.

It's wild how transparent this all is. Usually the people involved in this kind of thing are good enough at it where the common man just thinks "oh.....the NFL really wants him". Not so much here

What's clear in all of this is that Ono is still a really bad guy who'll lie, cheat and screw over other people to serve his interests. He got away with it at UC because they're so desperate to think they're big time that they ate his act up. Well now he is in the big time, and I really hope it all comes crashing down around him in a very public way. If anyone deserves to Peter Principle out in a spectacular and public fashion, it's this clown.

I think you're saying what I've said for years: that *ichigan fans say what they have to to sleep at night. I mean - most of us do the same. And that's all fine and well. But it makes us (Ohio State fans) laugh at those fans.
"You beat us this year? Well we still have the overall winning record against you." Go back 100 years to see that winning record, by the way (excluding the last two stupid years.
"We still have the most wins in college football history." Good job beating Ann Arbor High School and Adrian College and Cub Scout Pack 511 before the second half of the alphabet was invented.
"Our academics are awesome!!!" I'm not overly impressed. I don't even need to hear Desmond Howard talk to be reminded not to be impressed, but he's probably Exhibit A. He, like probably every other football player, was given preferential treatment to get in. All schools who want to win a game do this.
We've all been laughing at *ichigan fans for years. It's nice to see a *ichigan fan agree that it's horseshit.

In order to get a search warrant on somebody's home, a judge has to find probable cause that a crime has been committed. It doesn't need to be a sex crime, but some felony crime is being investigated.

What this guy is being investigated for is a felony. A coach has a different standard than a kid. So the excuse of it being a kid who made a mistake doesn't fly. Regardless whether this stays a felony, it will be super hard for them to keep Weiss, while the cloud of this alleged wrong doing is hanging in the air.

But TTUN never seems to surprise me, because everything is no big deal when their people do it.
