This whole time, I've been trying to figure out why Michigan didn't just re-negotiate Harbaugh's contract and tell him to call his brother's agent off; and you'll forgive me if I don't buy the theory that Warde "Even I Don't Know What I Do Here" Manuel was playing hardball with Ann Arbor's chosen son in a power struggle everyone already knows the AD would lose. I think I'm starting to see the larger picture tho:

If I had to guess, Manuel was adamant that Harbaugh sign the agreement saying he lied. Harbaugh refused and Warde baulked at negotiating further. So Jim loops in his brother's agent and creates the "Harbaugh to the NFL" circus until Ono's hand is forced and he neuters the AD by conducting negotiations with Harbaugh himself; negotiations that include agreeing to fight this out for at least a year. By which time JJ, Corum and Edwards will all be going to the NFL and Jim can ride off into the sunset flipping double birds at the NCAA on the way out.
There may be more stuff involving whatever the heck is going on with Weiss, but I think it's almost certainly about Michigan fighting the NCAA allegations long enough for Jim to get his last, best team through the season. Or at least, that's what it looks like to me now that we've got more info.
