2023-2024 College Basketball General Discussion

Even worse, Joey brackets just put SIX MWC teams in the latest update tonight. Ridiculous. The Committee must look past the teams padding win totals without beating power conference teams, and when they don't win their conference tournament they should be out. Treating the MWC like it is on par with (or better than) the B1G and ACC is a joke.

St Mary's is a team I wouldn't have a lock for an at-large bid. Yes, they won the WCC regular season. But they also have 7 losses, including games to Weber St, Xavier, Utah, Boise St & Missouri St. They haven't beaten a power conference team all season, and they only have one really great win at Gonzaga. Additionally, one of their starters & maybe their best defender Jefferson is injured & done for the season & they haven’t proven much in the 5 games without him. St Mary's is one of those mid-majors that has gamed the system to look better on paper than they are in reality. If they don't win their conference tournament, I'm not sure I'd pick them to make it.

I couldn't believe my eyes, the MWC projected to have FIVE teams in the NCAA tourney field. Surely the committee should look carefully and see that only 3 teams can possibly be worth an at-large bid. Some of these "top-50" MWC teams have literally ZERO wins against power conference opponents - Utah St, New Mexico, Boise St - the committee absolutely should not reward these teams for ducking and/or losing to power conference opponents all season. I would never give an at-large bid to Utah St, New Mexico or Boise St this season. The MWC can be repped just fine by SDSU, Nevada and Colorado St. It would be a huge error to let in half of this conference.

Reno has the 85th sos and played exactly one P6 team, 16-14 Washington. Yet they're being predicted as an 8 seed. What the fucking fuck? Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one e who gives a shit about the rules? Fucking mid-majors.

We probably are going to get a worse version of the MWC from last years tourney this year. Last year they got 4 teams, we heard the same shit about how "deep" of a conference it was and then everyone besides San Diego State lost in the 1st round.

They are all basically piggy backing off each other to boost their NET Rankings, not a lot of quality OOC performance.

New Mexico is the one that really gets me

21-8, 6th in the MWC currently, Their best OOC win was against fucking UC Irvine yet they are seen as "in" by a lot of pundits at the moment.

Illinois favored against Purdue. Sure…

I know it’s Purdue in March but at least it was a Big Ten game. I don’t know how many times I have to say this but a Brad Underwood team cannot be trusted. Always a messy bunch.

Boilers lock up outright Big Ten. 77-71
