The scene outside Schembechler Hall after Simple Jim announced his return.

they can say what they want but losing your OC to a lateral move after it’s too late for you to find a strong external replacement is not what strong programs do
Yep. Basically this rumor amuses me. Cause either he did it and you didn't have a problem with it till he left or it's not true. Cause otherwise he would have been looking for employment right after the season not this late in the year

Exactly.

Gattis is a scumbag and the guy behind him is Wiley E Coyote Super-Genius...now.

I have given this long and deep consideration. I will now refer to ttun as merely: _ . No muss. No fuss. No wasted typing. No undue and entirely unintentional respect paid them by using the rest if that name. When you see _, plug in whatever pejorative seems to fit best.

That us all.

SIAP

But according to a thread on a UGA board, there's a rumor that Gattis slept with the mother of a recruit named Xavier Worthy (who apparently found out and flipped from Michigan to Texas). Some people are also saying that some at TTUN are claiming that the reason why Gattis went to Miami was because he was "pushed out" and encouraged to leave because of these allegations.

I didn't pay it much mind (why would this rumor be leaked on a UGA board?), until I saw that a TTUN reported addressed it in a Tweet:

Based on what little I know about this whole Gattis-TTUN situation, I'd guess that some of the things that he said about the culture on the way out was a bad look for the program, so they countered with this rumor to try to save face. There could be some truth to the Gattis sleeping with the recruit's mother (I've heard rumors of happening quite a bit, especially in the S-E-C! S-E-C!), but I don't think TTUN would've had a problem with it if he didn't decide to bail on their shitty culture and program.

:slappy:

FYI - Yoder is a professional ttun troll.

So here's a summary of the musical chairs they've apparently done with their staff from the Ministry of Excuses:

Matt Weiss promoted to co-OC with Sherrone Moore
Ron Bellamy (safeties) to wide receivers
Grant Newsome (analyst) to tight ends, a promotion to an on-field role.
Jay Harbaugh (tight ends) to a defensive position TBD.
Moore (co-OC/OL) and Hart (RB) remain in place (for now?)
Now, JayBaugh is being shuffled off to the defense. How many positions has he had now? He's apparently so good at his job, that he never seems to be able to stay in one job for more than a year or two and not one single other program has attempted to hire him away from (alleged) daddy. Nepotism at its finest.

For sure, there's no spinning their way into making this not look like an organizational failure.

My takeaway from it, however, is that trying to soften the blow of losing their OC by claiming that they did it because he was banging recruit's mothers doesn't seem to be the smartest strategy for damage control.

Back to the Ravens' former assistant well, of course.

This one actually has some DC experience under his belt; the results aren't exactly flashy (courtesy of the Ministry of Excuses):

  • 2012 (Indiana State): 3rd/FCS in scoring defense, 6th/FCS total defense
  • 2013 (Georgia State): 117th (last, Sun Belt) in SP+, 128th in DFEI
  • 2014 (Georgia State): 127th (last, Sun Belt) in SP+, 119th in DFEI
  • 2015 (Georgia State): 88th (4th, Sun Belt) in SP+, 57th in FEI
  • 2016 (Georgia State): 49th (4th , Sun Belt) in SP+, 52nd in FEI
  • 2021 (Vanderbilt): 115th (last, SEC) in def SP+
I'll strike 2012 because it was FCS. That leaves him with 5 years of DC experience in the FBS, in 3 of those, his defenses were ranked dead last in his conference and 117, 127 and 115 in the country. His two "best" seasons were 88 and 49 nationally.

More from the MoE:

PROS: Came up with Macdonald at the Ravens so it’s an exact system fit. Eight years as a college DC before he turned 40, probably looked like a better DC candidate last year than Macdonald if we’re going on resume. Young. Multiple ties to disparate members of staff plus experience in new recruiting grounds.
"Exact system fit" minus the two DEs that made that system go. Eight years as a coordinator before being 40 might actually be impressive if they were at schools other than Indiana St, Georgia St and Vandy or if he actually coordinated, you know, GOOD defenses.

CONS: One year of recruiting in the Power 5, and that at Vanderbilt. Presence of dad at GSU and all the other Ravens defensive minds, including Macdonald’s, means you can’t exactly credit Minter for all of the success he’s been around. Multi-year projects abound. Safeties coach means moving Bellamy, probably receivers/recruiting coordinator.
Was a part of Good Ravens defenses, but the Ravens always have good defenses, it's kinda hard to glean much about Minter as a coach from that...though "standing on the shoulders of giants..." is a ttun hallmark.

SYSTEM FIT? Exact. Worked alongside Macdonald in Baltimore, installed something similar in Nashville last year. Vandy is the one SEC school where I’d believe he’s worked with academic limitations before.
While not having to change systems can certainly be viewed as a positive, again, the two most important pieces (Hell, I'd say three with LB Ross) are now gone and there isn't anybody on their roster that jumps out as being able to minimize the drop-off they're about to experience. Wonder what their D might look like without Hutchinson/Ojabo? Look no further than the UGA plundering. UGA neutralized their edge guys and the weaknesses on their D were brutally exposed by a good, not great offense.

This hire is a nothing burger, but again, at this point of the hiring cycle, it's not like they had a plethora of choices. It's a shot in the dark and the chances of repeating the success they had under similar circumstances last year with McDonald are pretty slim given what they have returning.

I'm leaning towards there being some truth to it. There were some "hush, hush" references to it When they were discussing who might replace Hairball if he left ( so a week ago) and in lurking around the PSU boards, there are rumblings about some "indiscretions" when he was there, although with Co-Eds, not recruit's moms.
