Top 5 D doesn't seem to crazy now. ND's offense may turn out to stink but I saw an equally terrible Minnesota offense that couldn't score on Bowling fuckin' Green move the ball up and down the field to the tune of 31 points last year. Then I watched what would turn out to be a super average Oregon offense put up 500 yards and 35 a week later. Early returns look are looking very promising.

I'm ecstatic. Finally a Defense that plays with their hair on fire. Make mistakes in effort, that's forgivable. Sit and wait on plays and get dictated to, that is not. Jim Knowles is 100% the former and my favorite hire since Jim Tressel. All that being said, there is a concern that I saw the first time I watched the game and was reinforced on the second viewing (with numerous pauses and rewinds mind you). The QB keeper or designed run gashed us a lot. It would not leave my mind picturing it with freaking McCarthy running it in that god awful uniform.

I know we're only one game in and it will likely get fixed and the Defense has me so stoked that I can't care about those plays more than a little. Still, there's an itch in the back of my mind that needs to go away. Bring on the Red Wolves and let's see the first goose egg on the board at the end of it.

Couple things...

1. Jim Knowles- hopefully he's a career assistant for our sake but eventually someone is coming calling. Pay this guy whatever he wants.

What I love about Jim is he's willing to do anything to stop a defense. He'll zone blitz, play man, play any form of coverage, he will move players around and finally he will play zero and bring the house if he needs. It's 1 game but wow... my hot take? Jim just might be a better coordinator than Ryan Day (MIGHT). Because we know Ryan can get pass happy but at least through this game and Okie States tape Jim sort of takes pride in being so diverse.

2. Ransom- Holy crap. I'll full on admitt... I thought he wasn't OSU caliber after last year and I was wrong. He reminds me of the Honey Badger Matthew. He's obviously not him but just his style.

3. Mike Hall- similar to Ransom I'm not saying he is him because it's 1 game and this is stupid to say but... Mike Hall reminds me of Aaron Donald. Quick, powerful but just look at him. I've never seen a DT like Aaron and I've certainly never seen a DT like this at OSU physically. He's 290 pounds with a flat stomach and lines up at DE at times. I mean wtf...
