2022-2023 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I know Holtman isn't getting whacked this year, but next year had better be make or break get to the Sweet 16 or he needs to go.
Yeah but what if he finishes middle of the pack in the conference then manages to win two games in the tourney? Do we define that as progress and a sign of a brighter future? Or a fluke? I’d say he needs to challenge for a conference championship. He needs to win the games he’s supposed to win.

They always say that the goal is to win all your home games and half your road games. Well, do that. Or at least come really close. Stop losing to teams you have no business losing to. Get better as the season goes on.

At this point the only reason I see for keeping him on is to save the recruiting class which I’m told is highly ranked. Holtmann has recruited classes that were highly ranked before, hasn’t he? Where did that get him? It’s not my job to hire his replacement but if it were then I’d be making some calls. If I could find the right guy, I’d pull the trigger. But I doubt that’s where we’re at and I figure it’s likely that we’ll be trying to find that coach next year. Unless, you know, a bunch of freshman come in and turn this team around.

All good points. I think we agree that next year is succeed or gtfo, just trying to figure out what that floor should be. One thing that I've long noticed is that GS has been zero tolerance for off-field shit, but he's never been quick to pull the trigger on coaches for on-field performance. Another year like this, and the program could wander the desert like it did in the 80s, and he needs to understand that.

There’s no reason with the resources that tOSU has that a 20+ win season and an NCAA birth shouldn’t be the low rung of expectations.

At this point does keeping him save the recruiting class? This isn’t the first season that he’s lost the locker room and team. IMHO there’s something off with his program beyond player development.

Question for my Buckeye brethren - which scenario is worse:

Holtmann doesn't even really bother to coach this team and this is the result.

Or

Holtmann does actually bother to coach this team and this is the result.

I'd pay good money to sit in on some practices. Are we sure they aren't just hanging out in the locker room everyday watching 'Billy Madison?'

Keeping him saves the recruiting class, if they don't change their minds, and $17.5 million owed to Holtmann beyond this season.

I think that’s the big if though, does he save the class, especially with how the team has just regressed and given up at this point.

Curious folks take on whether the buyout would matter if we saw a similar regression in the football team.
