2022-2023 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Every game is pretty much a "must win" from now out

Indiana has won 4 straight and is 10-1 at home on the year. (Ohio State is 1-5 in true road games)

Not exactly high confidence here. Thought maybe they'd get a injection of confidence after that Iowa game, but that didn't happen.

They'd have to go 7-4 in the last 11 games to finish .500 in the B1G and maybe get invited to the tourney.

If only they coulda managed to win those Minnesota and Nebraska games, they'd be in a lot better shape right now. (still not great but a lot better)

The stupid thing is if they play the way they played in the tournaments they can win all of those games but it left about the break again and we've barely seen signs of it.

Stretch Run: Buckeyes will need big finish to keep NCAA string alive

The good news is OSU has six of its last 10 games at home at Value City Arena, beginning with Thursday’s game against Wisconsin.

OSU has been to all four of the NCAA tournaments held during Holtmann’s reign as the head coach. The Buckeyes last missed the NCAA in Matta’s final season in 2016-17 when they finished 17-15 overall and 7-11 in Big Ten play. OSU has been under .500 in Big Ten play once in Holtmann’s tenure, ending up 8-12 in the conference in his second year (2018-19). But they still had done enough to earn an NCAA at-large bid that season.

Below, we will share a look at the 10 remaining games for Ohio State and will also share some Big Ten power rankings at the midway point of the conference season.

OHIO STATE STRETCH RUN

* Wisconsin, home, Thursday, 7 p.m. (Fox Sports 1) – The Badgers (12-8, 4-6) are going every bit as bad as Ohio State, dropping six of their last seven games. They did get center Tyler Wahl back from an injury, however. This will be the teams’ lone meeting this year.
* Michigan, away, Sunday, 1 p.m. (CBS) – The Wolverines (11-10, 5-5) have dropped five of their last seven games to fall onto the NCAA bubble. Coach Juwan Howard has struggled to put a consistent supporting cast around standout center Hunter Dickinson. This will be the teams’ lone meeting this year.
* Northwestern, home, Feb. 9, 8 p.m. (Fox Sports 1) – The Wildcats (15-5, 6-3) are somehow alone in second place in the Big Ten. Since OSU took a 73-57 win in Evanston on Jan. 1, Northwestern has gone 5-2 and won its last three games.
* Michigan State, home, Feb. 12, 1 p.m. (CBS) – The Spartans (14-8, 6-5) have been tough at home and have struggled on the road. They are getting forward Malik Hall back from injury and could be primed for a big finish.
* Iowa, away, Feb. 16, 9 p.m. (ESPN2) – The Hawkeyes (13-8, 5-5) just got Patrick McCaffery back from a mental health break and Kris Murray is playing at an All-Big Ten level. OSU took a 93-77 win at home over Iowa on Jan. 21.
* Purdue, away, Feb. 19, 1 p.m. (CBS) – The top-ranked Boilermakers (21-1, 10-1) just keep rolling behind 7-4 center Zach Edey, who looks like a prime national player of the yar candidate. Purdue pulled out a 71-69 win at OSU on Jan. 5.
* Penn State, home, Feb. 23, 6:30 p.m. (Fox Sports 1) – The Nittany Lions (14-7, 5-5) are one of the pleasant surprises in the Big Ten this year. Guard Jalen Pickett has become one of the Big Ten’s best players. This will be the teams’ lone meeting this year.
* Illinois, home, Feb. 26, noon (CBS) – The Fighting Illini (15-6, 6-4) have won six of their last seven games and are peaking at the right time. One of those wins was last week’s 69-60 home win over OSU.
* Maryland, home, March 1, 7 p.m. (Big Ten Network) – The Terrapins (14-7, 5-5) have come on for first-year head coach Kevin Willard. They’ve won three of their last four games. Maryland took an 80-73 win over OSU on Jan. 8 at College Park.
* Michigan State, away, March 4, noon, 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. (TV TBA) – The Spartans are 9-2 this season at the Breslin Center.

Just sayin': At 11-10 they are going to need to win at least 7 of the remaining 10 and maybe another 1 in the B1G Conference Tournament to get to go to "The Big Dance". At this point in the season I just don't see it.

The Refs took away a possible Minnesota win (Yes I know it should not been that close and yes I know we got a call vs Rutgers)

All that withstanding that ref missing the call vs Minnesota will probably be 1 of the reasons why Ohio State will not make the tournament which I thought would be crazy to think would happen.

That North Carolina loss was pretty bad too that was wrapped up you can't lose a game you are up 2 pts with 2 seconds left.

I honestly believe that Chris Holtmann has accepted another coaching job.

I don't know what his buyout is, but it's just a gut feeling.

To pay a $2 million buyout to walk away from a $20 million contract it would have to be a helluva job. I wouldn't trust your gut on this one.
