I hope Georgia breaks one off in their asses...
Simple Jim's MO has always been to catch lightening in a bottle for a year or two (often with a gimmick), but he inevitably falls on his face and can't sustain it. He lucked into Andrew Luck at Stanford and then bolted for the NFL before he actually had to build a program. He lucked into Kaepernick and the pistol before NFL defenses were ready for it and rode that for all of 2 years before it began to crumble, and he bolted for tsun.
Now he installed his gimmick old school offense, found 2 top 10 pick edge rushers and it all came together in the year that Ohio State's defensive decline came to a head. Those DL are gone and Ryan Day just hit a home run hire as DC.
There is nothing in Simple Jim's history that says this success is anything but a transitory aberration before Simple Jim loses his baseball again.
Exactly what I've been thinking now that I'm seeing things more clearly after that L we took.
We obviously had our own issues that needed urgent correcting but I honestly believe this past season was an anomaly (on their end) more than anything.
Gattis is now being mentioned as one to watch for the Virginia HC vacancy.
Definitely a fair point. Macdonald would be the much bigger loss.Honestly though how big of a loss would this really be? "Speed in space" had absofucking nothing to do with their success this year. It's not like hes raking in highly rated skill position recruits either.
I never thought that Ohio State would win 43 in a row, like Notre Dame did in their "rivalry" with Navy. scUM got their once a decade win, next year it's back to normal. We obviously had our own issues that needed urgent correcting but I honestly believe this past season was an anomaly (on their end) more than anything.
I'm 50/50 on this. On one hand, coach turnover is hard to deal with. On the other, I want to beat that punk ass next year.Honestly though how big of a loss would this really be? That they would go from zero to insufferable douchebags with the least little bit of success is the least surprising thing in college football. And it's this preening sense of superiority and entitlement that will lead to their quick downfall. DC's will figure out how to scheme and play call against Simple Jim's 1960 offense, and we'll see how well their defense plays when they're on the field for forty minutes every game.
Simple Jim's triumph of finding his baseball will quickly turn into this.
