So what's everyone's take on the 4 OT look? It failed in 2018 to run the ball and so far a ton of the same this year.
Do we need true people movers up front or is play calling the issue?
Both, but some of the guys got blown up today. Play calling certainly didn’t help, but it’s never good when there are three d-linemen behind the OL before a handoff is completed. Our interior really struggled today. But the play calling did little to negate the struggles.
How much more experienced is he really? It’s not like Miller started most of last year. He was coming into this year as much of an unknown as Wylper. Honestly Miller is all hype to this point. Wylper is taking his lumps like a young kid, keep him in there to get better. id honestly rather see more of Jones on the insideIMO Wypler has struggled a ton too. Too bad we don't have Miller to see about because he's a good bit more experienced and has extra size too.
He's older and stronger at the point of attack IMO. There was a play vs PED that stands out to me where he got pushed back 5 yards into the backfield. How much more experienced is he really? I think teams have declared what the gameplan will be against OSU's offense and that is to play a ton of 2 high sefty zone and make them stay patient and drive the field. Take away the big play (as best you can) and play to the weaknesses of the still relatively inexperienced Stroud and the occasionally impatient/stubborn Day.
I also think the absence of Wilson today was a lot more impactful than people thought. Yes there are other talented players but there is so much to the chemistry and timing that it's very difficult to overcome in just one week (or less). Reminds me of how out of sink Fields looked without Olave in the B1G CG.
Anyway, just my imo. Obviously lots to work on but the sky is not falling. You are never as bad as you look in games like today or as good as you look in games like Rutgers/Maryland/IU.
I wonder if it's a leverage issue. Playing 4 tackles sounds awesome, but Guards are important as well. Guards tend to be shorter than tackles. 6 3 dudes. Able to get lower than most 6 7 dudes.I feel like there are some weaknesses getting exposed on the interior line, at least on run downs. Teams are eating the Bucks alive. Not happy with Day’s creativity to counter this either - no stretch or outside plays. Give an end around or something.
anyway, thank goodness for Wypler’s fumble recovery. That was ugly from the offense.
