Being at the game it felt like Cavazos and Ransom were picked on to be honest. I thought Watts and ESPECIALLY Burke were great. They tried picking on Burke but he had none of it.

IMO, no you don't rotate. Someone's the best option and they need to figure that out. IMO, Simon and Mitchell are the best LBs. For the secondary they need to figure that out

What if one of the odd men out transfers and has a pick 6 for Georgia?

The modern WILL backer is essentially a nickel DB. Just depends on the size and athlete you're trying to put there.

Defenses have been using a rolled up corner/hero back/monster/etc/etc/etc since I was in high school and probably for decades before that.

All this bullet/viper stuff is way overblown.

Banks is not a first round talent at the moment. Unless you meant the old day period of rounds for the draft.

I've seen several projections with Banks in the first round. I agree he's not there yet and needs a great season to get there, but I think the ability is there. He is Day 2 (rounds 2-3) right now but imo perfectly capable of being first round material.

Remember Billy Bates for the Cowboys in the 80's? That guy was the quintessential "monster" player. Couldn't really cover and wasnt a full time safety but the sumbitch was on tackle after tackle everywhere on the field. I'll take one of those please.

Just stopping by to once again say that Kerry Coombs is out of his depth.

I think the question that needs to be asked: does Ryan Day have the Saban like ice water in the veins to whack him after this season when his unit once again under performs given the talent?

IMO I don't think they underperformed that much in relation to talent last year. You had very good players in Werner and Garrett, an ok DL, your nickel playing outside corner which isn't his strength, and a hodge podge of seniority and raw talent among the rest of the back 7. They should've been better, but they clearly didn't have the talent to contain elite offenses.

I mentioned it in the offseason, but this defense wasn't going to come out and play lockdown football from game 1. If the struggles continue, I'm all aboard the new DC train and Day will probably be as well. But it's still early and they're still rebuilding the DB room. We weren't going to see a lot of new looks with 3 freshman DBs and a new LB corps. Maybe it'll stay that way, but they should be willing to mix in zone and different blitz packages when comfortable with personnel.

Don't think there's any conjecture about the starting SF and outside DBs. It's Proctor, Banks, and Brown. 3rd DB should be Burke, but I liked what Watts brings and Cavazos will be good. Agree with the LBs and they should have less of a rotation next week. Mitchell is a ballhawk who needs to make sure he doesn't get ejected, and Simon is shot out of a cannon.

They won't be playing 24 guys every game unless it's a blowout.

When I saw the MLB lined up over the slot receiver I broke out in sweat. Did Combs review the Alabama game plan? Or is that how we roll all year? His age and habits might be catching up with him. I speak from experience.

Isn't LJsr older than Coombs? He's been able to adapt when needed... Kevin Wilson is also the same age at Coombs, and he's also adapted... I think we all may need to pump the brakes and give Coombs a little more time than a shortened Covid19 season and 1 game to start the season. Like @1926Buckeyes said, we maybe should give him a larger sample size. Especially when no one had problems with his defense against NW or Clemson. This discussion about Coombs will probably be revisited at the end of the year, as I don't see an L for OSU until (possibly) teams in the CFP. And after seeing him let go of Schiano and Davis, I'm sure Day would have no problem showing Coombs the door if the time comes

Watching Georgia’s LBs put into perspective how behind we are and have been in that room.

If we're going to be critical of Coombs based on last year, then we should criticize UGA in the same way. Because with 1 game, UGA beat a suspect Clemson team. And in 2020, they almost lost to a G5 UC team, would they still be considered so good then? They also barely beat a 4 win Miss St team. So was that Clemson really as good as people are making it out to be, or is it another example of CFB preseason rating teams higher than they should be rated and altering our perspective? It happens every year in CFB(which I've been against pre season rankings for so long).
