It’s not like the same fucking guys are gonna wake up one day and day “oh, jeez. I wasn’t near physical enough against the run. Now I get it!!” And be a different player.

Whatever the defense has been all year, it will be the same in the Bowl game. The glare of that will depend on the opponent.

It isn’t mystical. No one is going to wake up one day and be completely different than he was before he fell asleep.

Better be careful Jaxbuck, I said the same thing the day after The Game (we're slowly morphing into a BIG12 team) and was told that's "asinine".
What I saw in The Game was a B12 team getting punched in their bitch mouth by a tough B1G team. Everyone needs to just come to grips with it.

Now, that said, some of our Buckeye brothers might not want to hear that shit less than a week removed from some serious emotional pain being inflicted. I can respect that.

The one thing I think I’ve learned growing up in this site(from an annoying 33 year old boy to a more self aware but still prone to annoying 50 year old boy) is that it’s ok.

Say what you’ve got to say but don’t get down in the mud with your countrymen. They are as invested, and in pain, as you are. Find a balance between being confident in your view point and being respectful of theirs. We’re all Buckeyes in the end and minor disagreements mean less and less as time goes by*

* they are all minor

Go Bucks and fuck *ichigan. We can all agree on that.

That’s right. The hope, and this would be a curse, is that we’re playing a bowl game on a fast track and the offense can do it’s thing. The curse is if they win that it will cover up the needs to fix the defense.

I tend to be more optimistic than you with regard to what Day sees / knows / will do. In the end, I pray like hell you’re wrong. Knowing you, I’m sure you’re saying the same prayers.

You are 100% correct.
I doubt Day but I pray to Woody’s sacred scarlet balls I’m wrong.

Day demoting Coombs gave me a lot of faith that he’ll at least doing everything in his power to correct the defensive problems. I know people wanted Coombs gone for the NC debacle but last year had so much fuckery to it that it would’ve been unfair to fire him after only a year. Especially in a year where basically no defense looked good.

My only worry with Day as far as Defense comes from him wanting to control the scheme. Hire the best you can get and get the fuck out of the way and let them do their thing. Don't try to control the defensive scheme as an offensive coach

We just need to clean house on D and bring in new staff. I won't believe that our players are as bad as the D played. I think it is bad coaching and putting them in poor situations. Of course players blew a lot plays too, but that's what happens when you get put in bad positions.

I thought we played zone like shit like no one knew their assignments got blown up by seams and meshes. I hated how we played waaaay off man and would concede like 5+ free yards and being so far off would usually result in a YAC. I hated how so often we would torched on outside runs and passes to the flats.

I haven't looked at the stats, but I don't feel like I need to look at them to know this is the worst D by far I've seen from OSU in probably 10 years or more (my long term memory sucks though).

I have wondered if during practice the D was getting slayed by our O, which is more talented, and that caused some of the shift from being more aggressive to trying to be bend don't break. Argue all day that practice is practice, but when your D unit is getting blown up by the O the DC is going to be influenced by that and try to prevent that.

I really don't understand why you doubt Day so much. I feel like you're just lashing out at this point. He made a drastic move after 2 games which at least salvaged the D enough so it wasn't a train wreck all year. He will very likely make some big changes in the off-season. A coach as sharp as him who seems willing to make tough decisions should give you confidence. Can we wait to see what he does in the off-season first? Damn. We let Meyer fix the mess after 2013. Let Ryan fix his

I’ve said it in many posts, I doubt him because he saw this exact same shit show of a defense end the ‘20 season and did exactly nothing about it all off season.

It’s as simple as that. I doubt his judgement based on that simple fact.

Watching the games this weekend.

Utah, UC, Baylor-Ok St, Michigan.

What sticks out to me is our lack of physicality on defense. Especially in the back 7.

It is mind numbing how more physical and downhill these teams are.

Is it cultural, have we lost our hard edge since Urban left, are there recruiting issues, we’re we too young, is it our pass first out score teams with a passing game guru mindset.

Front 7 to me is the difference

This was my conclusion. Except it's the whole defense that was soft. Like you said no one wanted to meet anyone in a hole. They always looked tentative. Maybe it is just the extreme youth.... but IMO it's soft coaching
