2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

First time since 2011 I don't want to see an OSU team play again in a season.
Last years' Alabama game is the first time I turned a game off before it was over. I wanted Coombs and Co. fired right then and there. I didnt quite feel that this past week but I was livid they stayed in base defense and let them run down the damn field on us. I physically need to see them play again because I can't have another full offseason with that same taste in my mouth and the same people held responsible for it.

but it’s going to be the same shit.

This team is fucked. 3rd time in 4 years the defense has been abysmal.

Fuck or walk time for Day.

I’m still so fucking pissed I can barely function. Day fuckwell knew the defense was a proper fucking mess as he was left to lick Sabans jizz off his old lady’s face like a cuck as he gimped off the field last year and he spent an entire off season doing fuck all about it and hoping…what? That Coombs obtained an IQ over 80 in the off-season? That his front 7 had testicles implanted?

Obviously I’m still in a slow burn rage but very, very skeptical that Day can fix the fucking D. It’s like asking an F1 driver to fix the plumbing because he works with machines all day. It ain’t exactly the same fucking thing.

My hope is that Ryan uses all if his NFL and college contacts, along with the resources and contacts of OSU and our alums to find the absolute best DC. Hire him, then let HIM evaluate the players and figure out their best defensive fit.

Ryan’s got enough on his hands fixing his offense.

just the opinion of a nonexpert.

@billmac91 isn't wrong.

I don't think we should be in the playoffs at all but look at the standings and remember they have to fill 4 slots.

  • OSU is currently the highest ranked 2 loss team
  • CFP has said the lack of a coach is a factor against 1 loss ND
  • If all three of UC, Okie State and Bama lose that opens up 2 spots imo
Who they choose to fill those two spots might not be OSU (nor do I want it to be) but there is a chance

I agree with this but what I can’t figure out is my particular sports betting app has 12 teams you can still bet on to win the national championship and OSU isn’t even one of them. I guess it’s possible they just don’t know how to put them and are keeping them off the board for now.

Odds of some 2007 shit going downtown put us into the playoffs are next to nothing, and the real rub is that for it to happen, we probably need tsun to beat Iowa otherwise 2 B1G teams end up ahead of us. In any event, odds are so slim that I'll be rooting hard for Iowa.

the odds of three or four independent events all going a certain way are long enough, then you’d see OSU at #4 facing a much more talented version of the kind of team that just fisted them. The odds against being in the field and winning it are a different thing entirely.

We’ll know by the time that game kicks off anyway but there are zero circumstances on Woody’s bountiful earth that could get me to ever root for tsun. Ever. Fuck *ichigan.

It's absolutely not 4 years, and that's some serious stretching to put that at his feet. Considering they may have been hired together (Schiano and Day)

1) He hired Hafley, which transformed the D from Texas Tech into one of the best in school history (and recent CFB history)

2) He hired Coombs, which is an interesting conversation given how much of a trainwreck the DB position had become thanks to hires before him

3) He kept Coombs, essentially fired him, and promoted barnes as a stopgap

1 was magnificent.
2 was flawed but had purpose, it just wasn't good in the end.
3 was bad.

Yes but that severe malfunction is leading to some absolute silliness, like misrepresenting what Jim has done and will do.

Jim got worked in year 1. He would have been worked last year. He got manhandled by little brother. He finally beat OSU after countless collapses. He's about to lose the only 3 defenders OSU would take.

Current Rankings

1. Georgia (12-0)
2. Michigan (11-1)
3. Alabama (11-1)
4. Cincinnati (12-0)
5. Oklahoma State (11-1)
6. Notre Dame (11-1)
7. Ohio State (10-2)
8. Mississippi (10-2)
9. Baylor (10-2)
10. Oregon (10-2)

With Kelly leaving ND, if Oklahoma State and Cincinnati both lose, Ohio State could move up to number four. I suppose Baylor could leap-frog OSU with a win over Oklahoma State, in which case Alabama would need to lose to open up another spot. Certainly less than 50%, but not totally out of the question. Kelly leaving ND really improved the odds since at 11-1, they were pretty much locked in above 10-2 OSU prior to that event.

Let me clarify; Day has been around to see a defense that's been bad 3 of the last 4 years. '18 clearly wasn't his fault.

Point that concerns me is he's on the inside. He should be able to see better than anyone what the defensive staff is all about and he just walked face first into a brick wall like he didn't even know it was there.

If you've been inside the WHAC since 2017 and came into this year thinking everything was cool on defense then I question your acumen. Given the person I am questioning is now the head coach, I hope to hell I'm wrong.
