2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

I think that's how I would rank the teams, though I can see the committee putting UC in the top 4, maybe as high as #2. They'll get pushed out and finish #5, unless they get some help (as noted in other posts in this thread).

I don't think they'll rank UC that high, because then they'll have to explain how they fell out of the top 4 while winning their last 5 games. Its a lot easier sell to slot them 5th and then move them up if someone ahead of them loses. I don't know - we'll know a lot more about how the committee views UC when their first set of rankings come out.

Did they ever explain dropping TCU or Baylor from 3rd to 6th in 2014? (I forget which team it was that dropped out. Florida State was 4th and they moved up to 3rd. Ohio State was 5th or 6th and jumped to 4th.)

Think it was a combo of OSU obliterating Wisconsin in the B1G Championship and the Big 12’s lack of conference championship that did them in.

Use that excuse again this year. "We ranked UC in the top 4 in early November, but Teams X and Y jumped them because their level of competition was higher. Also, eye test. Also, eff them."

I do think our margin of victory of Indiana helps though!
Except that the Bucks beat an unranked Indiana, Penix didn't play, and the #2 QB was knocked out with the score tied. On the plus side, IU's best defensive player played the whole game against the Bucks but was tossed for targeting early in the game with UC. And then there's the whole you-can't-extrapolate-what-Team X-will-do-when-they-play-Team Z-based-on-the-results-of-games-played-against-Team Y thing. What we're overlooking is that UC went into South Bend and embarrassed Notre Dame for one half and then held on for the win. Notre Dame looks to be undefeated the rest of the way with only a .500 Stanford standing in their way. That would do a great deal to boost UC's standing.

Cincinnati isn't getting in over a 1 loss P5 champ or a 1 loss SEC runner up. They are no threat to our playoff chances.

I agree UC does not get in over a one-loss B1G or SEC champion/runner up. Not so sure about a one-loss ACC, PAC-12, or BIG-12 champion. Those conferences aren't exactly crucibles of competition. It might come down to who that one loss was to, and how bad it was.

Oregon’s the only 1-loss possibility in the PAC-12, and I think Oregon would get in over UC.

But if it’s a 1-loss Wake Forest from the ACC, I like Cincy’s chances.

Fair points, I should have qualified that I wasn't including the dumpster fire that is the ACC. I do however think a 1 loss OU gets in over Cincy.

I think you are probably right, unless that one loss is a bad one (come on Texas Tech!). Oklahoma seems to be performing better with Caleb Williams, so I think they are less likely to shit the bed now than they were with Spencer "Heisman" Rattler throwing the ball.
