2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

Honestly I think that extra loss is exactly the reason why it played out as it did. A team with the same record has a much better case.
Yeah I don't think that's entirely the case. We rewarded the committee in 2014 with an outstanding run. After Sparty crapped the bed in 2015 vs Alabama I think there was fear that PED would do the same. Personally they had every reason to pick PED because they beat us but used that extra loss excuse.

Wish I was as sure about that as you. The outrage would be real (and completely justified) if we were chosen over them given identical records.

I would understand Oregon fans being outraged, but everyone should realize that just because one team beats another team once doesn’t mean that they are necessarily the better team. Upsets happen all the time. As this season has unfolded, it has become more obvious that Oregon’s victory over OSU was an upset.

We then proceeded to crap the bed that very year. Do you think the committee would hold that over our heads? It wasn't an excuse, it was THE reason. If ped was 12-1, they would have gotten in.

As was our loss to MSU in 2015...head to head matters. I do believe were a better team then Oregon, but we didn't prove it, if we start throwing head to head results out the window (concerning teams with the same record) and go strictly on eye test then the system is broken beyond repair. Using hypotheticals and ignoring actual results that actually happened decimates the committee's credibility.

We lost later that year than did MSU. When the losses happen matters too. We lost much earlier than Oregon and unfortunately for them they will have no other signature wins. Our last 3 weeks alone should see us beat 3 teams ranked inside the top 15.

If OSU wins out the teams that get in ahead of them are:
Alabama if they win out.
Georgia if they win out or lose only the SEC CG.
Oklahoma if they win out.
Oklahoma State if they win out (thus beating OU twice).
That's it. And since only one of the last two can happen - we would be in.

Well, Okie Lite lost to ISU so winning out won't happen now. Maybe neither of the last 2 will happen. I really don't see Okie beating Baylor, ISU. and Okie Lite twice* either (especially with the only actual home game being ISU).

* Assuming Okie Lite gets in the Big XII CCG now.

Regardless, this weekend we all will be Florida Gator fans.

The first CFP rankings come out next week. If they came out right now, would they have UC in the top 4? I don't think they would. I'm guessing it would look something like this:
1.) Georgia
2.) Alabama
3.) Oklahoma
4.) tOSU
5.) UC
6.) Oregon

There will be fake outrage when we get in ahead of UC but it is all FAKE ESPECIALLY AT ESPN. Verizon or US Cellular. Billions over Millions.

If that is how it looks - and I agree it should - there is nothing on the Cincy or Oregon schedules that would allow them to catch us.

Yeah, there would be some bitching from the Juggalos, but if they're slotted #5, they'd be the first team in should someone ahead of them slip up. this would be a lot less outrage than if they were ranked #2 or 3 now, only to get passed by and undefeated Oklahoma, and two or three one-loss conference champs.

I really think UC needs 2 of the following to happen in order to get in:

Alabama lose another game
OSU lose another game
Oklahoma lose a game
Oregon lose another game

The only one that matters is the top 4 at the end. After top 4 the 5 through 25 are participation ribbons.

I agree that those things definitely play in our favor, I'm just not comfortable with a 12-1 Oregon team. Needless to say, ill be rooting against UGA, Bama, OU, and Oregon the rest of the way.
