2021-2022 Ohio State Men's Basketball

18. Ohio State (10-4)*
*This ranking came before Ohio State’s game against Penn State Sunday.
The Buckeyes haven’t been at their best since returning from an extended break. Since the start of 2022, they’re 2-2 with one of the wins coming over a 6-12 Nebraska team in overtime, and both losses coming by double digits. Thursday’s game saw Wisconsin lead by as many as 17 late before winning by 10.

Buckeye basketball team living the team concept
The 15 members of the Ohio State’s men’s basketball team aren’t the first to plan to profit from their name, image and likeness rights.

They just might be the first to decide to do it together. Monday, an idea hatched during the summer will come to fruition with the launching of a clothing line created by the 2021-22 Buckeyes. Dubbed “The Players Edition” and designed to celebrate “Team 123,” the profits from the sweatshirts and T-shirts sold will be split equally among each member of the team.

“We felt like it could be super fun for all of us to be part of something together, and it was also an opportunity to make a historic moment,” fifth-year graduate guard Jimmy Sotos told The Dispatch. “No team in college basketball is doing a team merchandise deal like this where everybody’s sharing money and everything coming our way right now. We wanted to pioneer this.”

The full line of merchandise will go live Monday at noon at www.theplayersedition.com.

Interesting idea and great that they all agreed to split the profits. Pushing the envelope a little on capitalizing off of OSU's name (123rd OSU basketball team in team colors). Obviously there is no trademark on the number so its use is fine, but stating that its representative of OSU's 123rd basketball team in marketing the product probably is a no no. I doubt OSU will raise a stink over it though.
