Just sayin': The Buckeyes are starting to line up the 2021-2022 season basketball schedule.

Given the NC head coach position opening up, was heartened to see that Holtmann was not going to be a prime candidate to replace Roy Williams. Believe that he will continue to grow tOSU basketball team, and attract better and better players. Wish Oden was still sitting on the bench as a coach, that might attract more 'bigs' to the team. Hope they pick the Zags coach to head NC, as then mayhaps the big that has tOSU and Gonzaga in his final two (?) might go towards the Buckeyes. That could be the missing piece. Although I get why the transfer portal is a good thing, and that tOSU has profited, I'd rather see players commit out of HS, stay for 3 or 4 years, than do a graduate one-and-done. Go Bucks!

Just sayin':

1) I read where Walker Kessler is favored to go to Gonzaga.

There is some speculation that Kessler could end up at Kentucky with close friend and former Auburn Tiger Justin Powell, but now it doesn’t seem likely that either will end up in the royal blue and white. While the Gonzaga Bulldogs are reportedly the favorite to snap up the freshman transfer, don’t count out the Tigers just yet.

2) The 2021 #5 center (Kaden Perry) is committed to Gonzaga.
https://247sports.com/Player/Kaden-Perry-46084880/

3) The 2021 #1 center (Chet Holmgren) is forecasted to sign with Gonzaga.
https://247sports.com/Player/Chet-Holmgren-46057349/

4) I just don't see all 3 guys ending up at Gonzaga. If they do, at least 2 of them aren't going to be very happy; obviously only 1 would start and get the majority of the playing time. Note: Gonzaga is currently listed as starting 2 forwards and 3 guards. They do have a 4 star 7'-0" Freshman center (Oumar Ballo) that comes off the bench and gets very minimal minutes (i.e. 6.3). https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4594109/oumar-ballo

5) We may know a little bit more about the 2021 basketball recruits on or sometime after April 14, 2021 when the National Letter Of Intent signing period starts.

The Division 1 Basketball Regular Signing Period, originally scheduled between April 14-May 19, 2021 was extended until August 1, 2021
https://www.ncsasports.org/blog/202...heduled between,extended until August 1, 2020.

6) I'll go out on a limb here and predict that both Wheeler and Holmgren won't end up at Gonzaga; at least one of them will go elsewhere.

Script, Holmgren was the one I was thinking about, but his name escaped me......I'll join you in agreeing that maybe one will go there, and hopefully Holmgren will matriculate at tOSU. PS, the Zags are playing very well. Don't know their non-conference schedule, but UCLA took them to the wire last night. Both teams were tenacious and didn't lose focus or quit. Great game. One of the greatest, methinks.

Holmgren and Suggs went to the same high school so you can bet your sweet bippy that Holmgren will be heading for Gonzaga when all is said and done. He also can play the wing position so he is not necessarily a pure center.

I do not know how Few and Gonzaga (Spokane) is able to recruit all of these top-notch players. Maybe in 20 years it will come out that Few was paying guys under the table.

Jeff Goodman’s Way-Too-Early Preseason Top 25 for 2021-22

2. Ohio State
Transferring: G Musa Jallow (RS Jr., 2.9 ppg)
Seniors: G *CJ Walker (9.5 ppg), F *Kyle Young (8.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg), G Jimmy Sotos (1.7 ppg)
Likely Back: G *Duane Washington Jr. (Jr., 16.4 ppg), PF *E.J. Liddell (Soph., 16.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg)
Back: F *Justice Sueing (RS Jr., 10.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg), F Justin Ahrens (Jr., 5.7 ppg), F Zed Key (Fr., 5.2 ppg), F Seth Towns (Grad), G Meechie Johnson Jr. (Fr.), G Eugene Brown III (Fr.)
Add: SG Malaki Branham (No. 29), PF Kalen Etzler

As long as Liddell and Washington return to Columbus, this is a group that should be among the preseason favorites. Chris Holtmann will need to find a replacement for Walker, but he’s hoping maybe Johnson can fill that role. He also has no shortage of veterans that were a part of a team that earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tourney.

From what I have seen most of the "prognosticators" have Ohio State ranked pretty high in the Way Too Early predictions. A lot higher then I would predict them but what the hell do I know especially after looking at my bracket this morning.

KEVIN SWEENEY, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED: NO. 4

Sweeney's rationale for ranking Ohio State that high is simple:

"The Buckeyes’ stunning first-round NCAA tournament exit to Oral Roberts shouldn’t overshadow a great season in Columbus that saw Ohio State ranked in the top 10 for the entirety of February and March. The dynamic duo of guard Duane Washington Jr. and big man E.J. Liddell should be back for another year, and that’s as good a place to start as any in college basketball. Add in top-30 recruit Malaki Branham and a talented young stable of role players, and the Buckeyes should be legitimate Big Ten contenders yet again."

Just sayin': I don't see how you can know how good Gonzaga will be next season until you know whether Suggs, Kispert, Ayayi, and/or Timme declare for the NBA draft or return.

Lots of love for Ohio State....ESPN has at #4

4. Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes were ranked near the top five for most of the season, before late-season inconsistency saw them lose four in a row to end the regular season, then make a run to the Big Ten title game -- and then lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament to 15-seed Oral Roberts. Three key players from that group are back: potential preseason All-American E.J. Liddell and starters Duane Washington Jr. and Justice Sueing. Chris Holtmann addressed his point guard situation by going out and getting Penn State transfer Jamari Wheeler, while Zed Key will see an increase in minutes down low with Kyle Young likely gone. Ohio State was one of the best offensive teams in the country this past season, but its defense was lacking. The Buckeyes were 10th in the Big Ten in defensive efficiency and allowed eight of their final 10 opponents to score more than one point per possession. That needs to change.

Projected starting lineup:

Jamari Wheeler (6.8 PPG at Penn State)
Duane Washington Jr. (16.4 PPG)
Justice Sueing (10.7 PPG)
E.J. Liddell (16.2 PPG)
Zed Key (5.2 PPG)
