2020 Team Discussion Thread

This one's over folks. Time to start planning for 2021 with whomever we have. Davis won't be the last one.
The Ohio State staff did a great job of holding this team together until now. But I knew that as soon as a player opted out, 2020 would officially be over. Time to move on ... and I hope move out of the Big Ten.

Agree. The way I am reading the leaves is that Day made his last gasp effort and is getting word that there will not be an October start. He has communicated that to his players - otherwise there was no hurry for Davis to make this announcement.

IMO unless we see a similar announcement from Fields in the next few days prepare to see him play for the NC in a different uniform.

If the SEC and ACC manage to have successful seasons there will be great damage to OSU recruiting going forward. (I define one or two blue chippers per year as great damage when your goal is the NC.)

If we're not playing I want Fields to leave and I will root for him. Good for him if he can do it.

He's more of a leader than Kevin Warren.

I dunno. Maybe, but we're also talking about high schoolers that will probably forget much of this in a few years. Unless something changes with the program, it's hard to imagine coaches trying to sell a concern about once in a century pandemics.

I think OSU by and large will be fine, but I think there will be significant damage to the "B" and "C" level Big 10 and Pac 12 schools. It's not just about a "once in a lifetime pandemic" but how the conferences handled the players and families......which in the Big 10's case, has been downright disrespectful. As the parents and players have been saying from Day 1, we may not agree with your decision, but COMMUNICATE. The Big 10 has shit all over these kids and families by hiding in the shadows and just cowering at the thought of making any public statements.

That is going to blow up in the conferences face IMO. When Illinois is competing against Missouri for a recruit, it's a fact Missouri is going to communicate to the player and the parents that when the chips were down, the Big 10 slapped the players and families in the face while the SEC stood up and made it happen for their kids. There will be thousands of recruiting battles between the Big 10 and ACC/SEC/Big 12 programs in the coming years, where how the Big 10 handled this situation will come up. And the Big 10 looks small and petty compared to the other conferences that are making this happen, to the players and parents delight.

It's a great thing OSU has such a great track record of developing players for the NFL. For every other university in the Big 10 that does not have that current resume, good luck. And even with that, I agree with the sentiment, this doesn't help OSU recruiting. I think it will cost us 1-2 players a year that maybe would've come up from Florida or Georgia, that will opt to stay in the Southeast now.

This.

The majority of B1G schools just showed the sports world how much/little they prioritize athletics. I get the bigger picture of universities and don't necessarily disgaree that sports should be a small part of things but in the world of competing for HS football talent, how can an Illinois, Maryland, Rutgers, NW, etc ever be taken seriously?

"It just means more" has absolutely been proven out. It's fact now. OSU can overcome it because there is no doubt they tried and weren't part of it but it will still be used against them to some degree. The rest of the B1G better start thinking about Ivy League type of irrelevance. They are dead on the national scene.

tOSU will become even a bigger King of the Big 10 which will mean little outside of the conference. We are king now and we are beholden to the dregs of the conference.

The next shoe to drop is amateur status with the players. Who knows how it will shake out but it isn't beyond the pale to consider we may see some sort of P5/semi pro league that is for all intents and purposes a separate entity from the NCAA and conferences/schools.

Point being; I don't think the current model is long for this earth so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I agree but at this point theres nothing Justin can do... he can't learn an offense in 2 weeks. That's a big risk to him and his draft status and that sucks.

I will never forgive the big ten for this and I'm being honest here I really hope everyone does the super conference soon.

Minnesota looks to have voted down to play... yeah not happening boys and girls.

We need out of this league now.

We need to find our way into the SEC for the time being or something. "It just means more" is obviously our MOTO over the big ten.

On the bright side... I cant wait for these schools to be scrambling due to money restrictions. We should be playing Oregon tomorrow but nah we get nothing.
