2020 Team Discussion Thread

Presidential election who cares .,this is tOSU football. I don’t fall asleep dreaming about how Carter beat Gerald Ford. I dream about beating scUM for the next 20 years.
Unfortunately there's a TON of people who don't feel that way and they are almost all comprised of the same political party.

I agree with Bill this is all political. All of it.

We are the battleground states and maybe 2 weeks after we cancel Biden uses it as ammo against Trump? Come on now.

What's ironic is no one wants politics in sports and those who attempt to do that end up getting blow back. If we don't get football people will not blame Trump they'll blame those who withheld it.

Look at the NFL and now MLB/NBA.

Just let the kids play and keep politics out.

I live in Illinois ..I know what you are saying there is no way Illinois schools are voting for football.

Does the man even speak? The conference he's supposed to be running is burning to the ground and he's given one BS interview since it started.
Haha good point... instead of appearing to present the trophy he will have a press release which will or will not name a champion.

Dammit just a perfect storm. If Jim Delaney stuck around for 1 more year we are playing football.

Just to put it in perspective as I recover from Covid. At my age (37) my doctor told me I actually have a better chance of surviving Covid than I did if infected with influenza. And the same could be said for children and those younger than me.

The goal in my treatment would be to minimize the chance of developing pneumonia and minimizing exposure to others as to not spread it. Two weeks in and I’m just a few days from freedom and it feels great.

But I’m concerned. If influenza is more dangerous to our players than Covid, I don’t see any way Big 10 ever comes back to playing. Too much risk. Influenza has been around forever and we still don’t have a true cure. I think we need to mentally prepare ourselves for never having Big 10 sports again. Find an ACC, SEC, or Big 12 school to get behind. Against all odds, those conferences will not let influenza stop them.....

And if you just can’t bring yourself to pick a new college, maybe get behind a high school. There’s been plenty of great out of state HS matchups that have been fun to watch. Incredible.

Best of luck in your continuing recovery...

The Big Ten announced a league-wide voter registration initiative on Monday, which will include non-partisan education and a deeper understanding of registration, voting and voter suppression. “From a social change standpoint, I think our biggest asset is our right to vote and to be an educated voter.”

“As a conference, we have a platform,” Warren said. “I think we have a responsibility.”

“If one person registers to vote who wasn’t planning on it, this is all worth it,” Warren said.

Clearly no interest in the election, whatsoever. If only he was this interested in playing football.

Can the Big Ten swing a presidential election? Kevin Warren wants to find out

So you’re taking the headline “swing a presidential election” and putting those words in Warren’s mouth?

Newsflash: There’s nothing partisan about promoting civic involvement with young people, including voting.

Between the false assumption/statements that Big Ten schools are promoting Biden and this, we are reaching Alex Jones level on the conspiracy theories about Big Ten football.

Is the MAC in on it too? Is the PAC 12 trying to turn Utah blue by cancelling the season? This is all nonsense. I disagree with the Big Ten’s decision but bringing politics into it is ridiculous.

So four years ago, he wrote this relatively tame email AND now we are extrapolating that to believe he is stopping an entire conference from playing football just to affect an election:

“I realize that some may interpret this as anti-Trump although there is nothing explicit in the remarks,” he wrote in the August email. “...I would feel awful if Trump won the election and I was too afraid of appearing political to make any effort to encourage our students to thoughtfully participate. I’m willing to accept the criticism since I think its very important.””

My underlying point is it doesn’t have to escape into the Alex Jones conspiracy theory world to think the Big 10 may have underlying reasons for postponing the season.

We’ve now been able to watch HS and college football for a weak, many conferences and HS’s with far less resources than Big 10 Universities. And yet, we continue down this weird isolationist path that spits in the face of our players and parents who want to play.

It’s really not that difficult to ascribe some type of ulterior motive to the Big 10’s postponement until possibly Thanksgiving? It’s pretty laughable actually. It’s also a little more fitting Michigan happens to be the opening shot of Biden’s political ad that hits Trump for no fall sports.

The Big Ten is being overly cautious. I disagree with the approach. I’d rather they be playing.

But it’s not going to make any difference on Election Day so the political angle people are taking to it seems tenuous, at best.
