2020 Team Discussion Thread

October 10th would allow a 9-game season, 1 bye week, and a B1G CCG on December 19th.

Good thing I never settled the how many regular season games will tOSU play by Dec. 15th vBet, he posted hopefully.

Or a 10 game season and no B1G title game. 7 more games for the conference vs 1?

Let's remember that this is the university presidents decision so there are alot of hurdles to clear before they commit to a date. I think they know they can't set a date and go back on it.

I think first we will have to see the universities be able comfortably keep their universities open and keep in person classes for the schools that are still doing that. I think the second thing is they will need to see models that work in college football with how they deal with game day. It's not just fans in the stadium if they can do that or not but how they can keep the bar and party scene under control.

Using domes was floated before. The big ten might decide to do a neutral site dome season with no fans if they don't feel they can keep campus safe. That brings a whole bunch of scheduling and negotiating with neutral sites.

If they think neutral site dome games will keep the party scene under control then they really are clueless.

If the game is on TV there will be watch parties that carry on into the night.

Cancel football and guess what? They are still going to drink and have parties. Remote classes are the only way to prevent that.

It's why Thanksgiving had legs and might be the way forward. Most schools have students going home after Thanksgiving and the last few weeks are virtual along with tests.

Also we know college students are going to party regardless but football would give them another reason to party. If schools can't control the parties already happening and keep the campus safe, I don't see them starting the season while students are on campus. Either everyone has to go to online classes or they get to a comfortable place where they think they can add football into the mix. University presidents aren't going to look at football without the safety of the whole student body.

Fans outside of the student body also bring another layer of spread that universities can't control. Do those fans come in to town if it's in a neutral location? Do they show up at the neutral location if no fans are allowed?

Actually most colleges have kids going back home the week before Thanksgiving. I have a college Sophomore. Osu isn't but not sure if other schools are doing the same

Buckeyes will need another domino to fall if they want to get the playoffs to get pushed back. PAC 12 will have to start at Thanksgiving too and at least one of ACC/BIG 12/ SEC will have to delay because of problems.

I do think it will make it easier for one of them to delay and extend their season if they know the BIG 10 is playing at Thanksgiving. The CFP committee has 6 out of 13 members who are from PAC12, BiG10, and mountain west. Another conference having problems would swing the vote to delay the College football playoffs.

I like the idea but I doubt the CFP will get pushed back unless most of the conferences have their seasons delayed. At this point, the B1G has simply chosen to delay their season while the Big XII, SEC, ACC and others have chosen to play.

Realistically the only team impacted by not pushing back the CFP is Ohio State, and we can thank our conference brethren for that BS.
