2020 Team Discussion Thread

I'm frankly expecting a few losses next year. We have no one on the roster at RB who is remotely as talented as Dobbins. And a running threat is required for Fields to be optimally effective.

We haven't lost more than 2 games since 2011 (really 2008 if you're looking at teams without an interim HC). I don't know how on earth you look at this team and see 3+ losses. We went 13-1 with a subpar run game and one of the worst D's in school history 2 years ago.

Yeah I have a hard time seeing a single loss next year, let alone two or more. Oregon and the Pedsters are the only games that concern me, and Franklin's "coaching" will ensure a Buckeye win.

I'd be ecstatic with 90%.

On Teague; It wasn't just Clemson. His last 4 games were underwhelming to say the least.

Not sure if there was an undisclosed injury or what the deal was but I don't think we're being honest with ourselves if we just write it off as a one game aberration.

I think it was the way he was being utilized against better competition. He also wasn’t able to find open lanes sometimes, but I wouldn’t run him sideways against the better defenses at this point, maybe ever. I think the horizontal run game will hinge on how Crowley recovers and if McCall can finally be the guy we hoped he could be.

Unless they went full Urban 2013 where Carlos Hyde did all the between the tackles running and Braxton did all the edge running. Nobody wants Justin to run that much though.

We lose a lot on Defense next year.
DL - Young, Cornell, Hamilton, Landers
LB - Harrison
DB - Fuller, Okudah, Arnette, possibly Wade

That's a lot of talent and experience. If Wade comes back that will huge. But I feel that there is going to be some drop off. I'm also concerned that whoever replaces Hafley won't be as good with play calling and adjustments.

This year that would be correct, although I still think Fields did well with an injured Dobbins in the Fiesta. We'll see how his development goes, but I think he'll be a more polished and capable QB next year that can carry the offense in the pocket and with his legs. Having to operate mostly from the pocket these last 2 games gave him valuable experience and film to study.

And while Teague and Crowley aren't Dobbins, the dropoff isn't that severe that they can't have a very good running game. The core of the OL returns and that is the main difference.

Is Teague almost as good as Dobbins? Maybe not, but the gap between them isn't nearly as big as you suggest.

someone posted VIP post from Bill Greene saying he believes in his heart of heart Coombs is coming back
Just reading the tea leaves (or lack of)...it seems like this has to be it.

Zero mention of other candidates as the college coaching carousel is already in full motion.

Coombs, now back with NFL experience, is a home run. Seems like someone that would stick for a long time too.

Teague is a good North and South runner. Going laterally is not a strength. He seems to be more productive in the latter stages of the game. He is really stiff when running the ball with little movement. Dobbins is very fluid, has great moves and can make guys miss.

Methinks that we will need someone who will share the load much like Dobbins and Webber did in 2018. A healthy Crowley could be that guy.
