2020-2021 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Ohio State attempted to get something turned around within the weekend. Toledo was an option, with head coach Tod Kowalczyk telling the Toledo Blade’s Kyle Rowland that they nearly lined up a game on Sunday but weren’t able to set something up that would have tipped off 48 hours or fewer later.

“I'd like to be able to provide another game for our guys,” Holtmann said. “We looked at a number of options. Because of the testing protocols, it's hard to get a game that quickly turned around because your opponent would have to have two days of clean tests. We'll see if we find another window.”

“I do anticipate us adding another game at some point,” Holtmann said. “I just don't know when and where right now.”

They've got games against Cleveland State and Purdue on Sunday and Wednesday, but they've got a big one against North Carolina next Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

Ohio State made a change to its 2020-21 men's basketball schedule. The Buckeyes announced on Thursday morning that the team's game against North Carolina on Dec. 19 will now be the second of the two games in the CBS Sports Classic.

The Scarlet and Gray and the Tar Heels were originally scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. ET from the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio. Now, Ohio State and UNC will follow the game between UCLA and Kentucky, which is now scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET. The Buckeyes tip time is scheduled for approximately 4:15 p.m. ET, following the completion of the first game and time allowed for the court to be cleared and players to warm up.

not having E.J. for that Carolina game would be a huge loss, especially with a small(ish) lineup to begin with. Get well soon E.J.

If he's not available cancel it. It's the last non-conference game and getting whupped does nothing for us. Besides, everyone else is doing it this year.

It's not like 20,000 fans bought tickets for it.

Sorry, Jake, but I was just about to reply with the same response. I'm not on board with that. We just spent the entire week beating down *ichigan for doing just that....... quitting. A loss in a basketball season, especially in a non-conference game to a good team is meaningless, not like the football season. Play it with who is available.

SKULL SESSION: NCAA LETS TEAMS CREATE A BOWL GAME, CHRIS OLAVE AND GARRETT WILSON ARE A DYNAMIC DUO, AND THE BUCKEYE BASKETBALL TEAM IS GETTING GREAT SHOTS

I have absolutely no idea how you would measure this or put numbers to it, but according to this metric I have just learned exists, the Ohio State offense is doing good things, with the Buckeyes rank in the top-10 in terms of shot quality.

That's the good news! The bad news is, they still rank 157th in 2-point shooting percentage and 116th in 3-point shooting percentage, and this metric only makes those numbers look worse.

Maybe they should try not getting good looks for a change of pace, and see if it somehow helps their field goal percentage. It works for JR Smith.

With less than a week before Ohio State takes part in the seventh annual CBS Sports Classic, there has been another change to the event. After it was announced on Dec. 10 that the Buckeyes' Dec. 19 game with North Carolina at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland had been moved to the second of the two contests, the CBS Sports Classic made a second change on Wednesday, announcing Ohio State will now face UCLA and Kentucky will play the Tar Heels.

According to the press release sent out, "the revised schedule was created to more closely align COVID-19 testing protocols between the competing programs and their respective conferences." Given that the Big Ten and Pac-12 were closely aligned with returning to play in football after originally canceling their fall seasons due to COVID-19, causing both seasons to be shortened and delayed more than a month, it is logical that basketball programs from these conferences would be more comfortable playing an opponent with a similar regular testing plan.

The Scarlet and Gray will still take part in the second of the two games, with the contest against the Bruins tipping off at approximately 4:15 p.m. ET, giving enough time for the court to be cleared following the game between the Wildcats and UNC and warmups to take place. While it was not explicitly stated in the previous announcement, this time change was likely due to Ohio State football taking part in the Big Ten Championship Game against Northwestern on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET. Typically these two events don't overlap, but with the delayed Big Ten football season, there was a conflict for the Buckeyes.

The CBS Sports Classic is an annual college basketball event that sees each of the four teams involved face each other on a rotating basis on a neutral site. The four teams -- the Scarlet and Gray, the Wildcats, the Tar Heels and the Bruins -- have remained the same for all seven years of the event.

Just sayin': UNC is ranked #22 and UCLA is ranked "others receiving votes" which would be #35. Anyway, Saturday we get an Ohio State football/basketball doubleheader....:boogie:
